I've been running Ubuntu 11.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook for a few months now, but I think it's time for a change. I love Ubuntu, but no matter how much tweaking I do, it never feels as snappy as the original Windows XP install.

So, I guess what I'm looking for in a new Linux distro is something that is very light on resources and nice looking, but not lacking in functionality. Thanks.

    Xubuntu is a good choice.

Linux Mint Debian edition is what I've been using. It gives me a full Gnome desktop with metacity compositing that is as light as xubuntu.

Really there are a lot of excellent choices for those that want to go lighter and are most comfortable on a debian-based or ubuntu-based system.

I stuck a 2Gig stick and a 7200RPM 500G drive in my old S10 and it's as snappy as an Atom can really be running ubuntu 11.04. Nothing to write home about, but it is an Atom, so I didn't expect it to be a screamer or anything. The 7200RPM made a bigger difference than I'd expected really.
