Help, I'm a newby. Put Ubuntu 10.10 x64 on a stick. when I load it (Acer 3820TG) hangs up at "who are u" forward button never goes orange and progress bar say "ready when u are". Well I'm ready, already!!!
I shut dowm and rebooted into W7, went to dsk manger and cleaned the partition (didn't seem the same size tho) so I re-inserted the SSD card with U10.10 and strated over, still hanging up, now what????

How about trying to install Ubuntu on a flash drive and see if it runs with your Acer TimelineX 3820TG.

Exactly. Download Linuxlive USB creator: http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
Simply download the iso and point the program to where you downloaded the iso.
Be certain to use persistence so you can save all your presets and data to the USB stick.
Best way to try and learn about Linux.
Also, try Linux Mint. Main Page - Linux Mint You'll probably like it better than Ubuntu. -

Just a quick note, if you've filled in your user account information, and use a capital letter in the login name, it won't continue the installer. It won't TELL you what you did wrong.....it just sits there looking at you.
This was my frustration when rebuilding my Linux workstation a few days ago. Use an all-lowercase username, and you should be able to continue through the installer.
Edit: Horribly beaten by Dead2th3world. -
