I posted about about SL6 not long ago here. It's rock solid, wireless worked for me OTB. If I hadn't had sound problems (same as other desktop distro's on this machine) it would still be here. It's RHEL 6 based and is usable (now) as a desktop on modern hardware since the RHEL went to 6. I'm on their mailing list and follow it.

Zoid, you should post a thread here detailing which distros you've hopped through and which ones you liked.

Which distro did you settle on the machine and why?

Looks like SL6 might be the distro to convert me back to RH base after I left mandriva 5 years back :D

When is SL6 final expected to be released?

For me it's Sabayon KDE4, or CENTOS 6, RHEL 6, Scientific Linux 6 when they update the EPEL and RPMFUSION repos for codecs, non free stuff etc.

I'm toying with putting KDE 4 on LMDE x64 right now for S and G's :)

BTW, SL6 alpha is stable now....they are just still recomplling programs etc....I'm liking Scientific Linux over CentOS right now....they seem to be steady at work on it, it seems for uniformity at Univ's....I like their game plan.

How does SL 6 compare to CentOS 6? How do they differ?

I like SL6 simply because it's out....I only hear rumors about CentOS 6....maybe January 2011?
