This is probly a stupid question.
I'm dreaming about getting a more powerful laptop.
Have noticed a lot of the fancier laptops include an HDMI port.
Has anyone tried using their HDMI port to send signal to a second monitor? I have no idea if a mainline distro such as Ubuntu has problems using HDMI or if it "just works".
Thank you!

My 500 dollar dell in my sig has it and i have used it a few times to my tv just to test it out. It works just as well as a dvi cable....im thinking there are problems with linux with it, linux has a hard time with dual monitors, let alone an hdmi cable.

It should work - HDMI is a DVI-D signal with sound.

If you have an nVidia card, just install the nVidia drivers and load up the second screen under -->system-->administration-->nVidia X Server Settings
Then enable the second monitor with twinview. -
Thanks, Dire -
I was specifically looking at an Acer with an Nvidia card.
You know how it is when you're pretty sure something should work, but you feel much better after hearing someone say it does work. -
Anyone using the HDMI port?
