I have been using Kubuntu for about 3 to 4 years and love it. I use it 99% of the time. I have tried a few distros over the years such as Red hat, Slackware, Suse and Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I have made up my mine that I want to stick with Ubuntu variants, since I love apt and the way the Ubuntu community does things. I don't like Gnome, hence my reason to use Kubuntu, but I do like Fluxbox as a fast minimal Window Mgr when I get bored and want to play with something. I have played with it in the past and like the ability to configure everything with text files.

Therefore when I saw Fluxbuntu it caught my eye. What are your impressions of this distro? Do I have access to the same repositories and packages as Kubuntu right? Your comments/impressions/experience is appreciated. Thanks.

Tried Openbox? I'm using Crunchbang and love it.
I have tried Fluxbuntu, its ok, but I prefer openbox(it just takes some configuring).
Both Crunchbang and Fluxbuntu use Ubuntu(and kubuntus) repos.
    So ya, same programs available.

Fluxbuntu is a couple releases out of date. Also, since its based on 7.04, the graphical installer hangs on the six security updates if you don't have a working wired connection.

If I were you, I'd just install ubuntu 8.04 and work through a tutorial that explains how to install fluxbox.

I second openbox as it easily configuable with only two files to mess with. You can also use openbox with kde to get a feel for openbox. I am currently using openbox/thunar/bmpanel combination in Arch. If you have any questions, let us know.

Thanks for the suggestions! All very good ideas.....

I think I will stay away from Fluxbuntu. As you said it is a couple releases out of date. I tried blackbox in the past and didn't like it. I have used fluxbox before and found it to be pretty cool. I never tried openbox. Looks very interesting....

For now I have been running Kubuntu and what I will do for now will be to install openbox and play with it while still having the ability to go back to KDE if I want. If I really want to go Openbox exclusively then I will move to Crunchbang.

But I will say one thing. They got to come up with more professional sounding names, I mean Crunchbang? Come on. Imagine a person not too familiar with Linux asking you what you are running and you tell them Crunchbang. Try it on an IT manager !

Just install Fluxbox in Kubuntu, see Ubuntu's wiki(if you really want it).

Yes, I have done this before and used Fluxbox for a few months. I will do the same with Openbox just to get more familiar with it. This way I can use all the Windows Managers I want while still having the option to go back to KDE. I was just exploring different options. Thanks for your suggestions.
