How does this compare to plain ol debian?
    Any significant advantages?

    Nevermind, read the FAQ :D
I dont like it being not so stable.. seems like its getting the worst of debian and ubuntu.

Wonder when Debian 6 is going to be out...

I haven't played with linux for a while but this makes me want to dual boot again. I wonder how driver support is for my Vaio.

I'm going to when my desktop gets upgraded.... need to redo my HDD configuration first.

I have seen it on someone else's laptop, though.

I'm glad they're staying with Gnome as the default. I am impressed with the speed on an older laptop and it's Gnome DE. I bet it won't run as smooth w/ KDE. KDE is too bloated now, imho.
I was a KDE fan, too, and some KDE apps are still my favorites. I think KDE is fine on a powerful system but I think it's telling when KDE is getting increasingly bloated and they can't design it on a smaller footprint or minimize the resource hogging.

    XFCE or Gnome, FTW.
