I'm getting closer to making the decision to buy so for those who own LG units and recently wrote about them, how do you feel about them now?

I was close to buying the LM50 sxga but having read at this site about hard drive speed, I'm concerned about paying $2,900CDN for a 4,200rpm drive whereas the Dell 8600 can have a faster drive and a few other bells and whistles for less money. I'm not a high speed gamer so I'm curious if you feel that the slower drive is a disadvantage.

Any changes to your very positive opinions now that you've got more use out of your machines?

I'd have to disagree wil gili - although it sounds like in isreal it may be a different story, in Canada the service is excellent.

I'm still very pleased with my notebook, I haven't had any problems with the slow HD.. In fact it's barely noticable, even though my desktop is a 7200 rpm rive, the difference doesn't seem to be much.

so in a word then, no, no change in my opinions - still loving it

    I agree with emnoia,

I am extremely pleased with my LG.
I do live in Canada, so I dont know if that would make a difference? But when I compared Dell to LG's prices,(shipping and such) LG came out cheaper. (maybe I missed something?)

I could definately see the Xnote series being tough competition for toshiba, dell and the such.

I have been a die-hard Panasonic guy but after reading the reviews here of the LM50a I found a way to purchase one! Got it through a great Canadian retailer http://www.ncix.com/ which just happens to be across the border from where I live. Great service, CanadaExpress Post USA shipping and it is now a happy addition to the stable!
This unit has all of the points that the Panasonics are missing. The keyboard is wonderful. It has that IBM feel. The graphics system is robust and having the dedicated video RAM is a must for the higher end graphics and photo image manipulation I do. To top it off the screen is beautiful with no dead pixels and the system is really quiet, even when the fan comes on. All in all, a great unit. Time will tell if my initial observations will hold true.

Well, I'm still looking at the LG units. Today the dealer lent mea LM50BCZUI; 1.5 Centrino, 9200 radeon, 512meg ram, 15" xga screen.

I agree with the comments about the key board.
The wireless connection is excellent. I can access an unsecured router that's about 0.5km away!

I find the keypad pointer to be imprecise as it bounces around when I zero in on the target. On my other computer, the pointer goes where I want it without having to think about positioning it. I changed some of the settings but can't find a combination that gives good control to the pointer.

Now that I've been using the unit, I find the text in my word processer screen and in the screen that I'm typing this message to be blurry around the edges and the letters are not of a uniform colour top to bottom. Do those of you with an xga screen experience the same?

No I have not found that. The screen appears to be as sharp and even, as the LCD screens I have at work. (they are connected to sony vaio's)

Maybe its the screen settings?(You probably already checked that though.)

    Oh well[^]

Took the unit back today because of the way text was displayed. It's too bad because I liked the rest of the unit.

Took a look at the Fujitsu c2310 and really liked the Crystal View XGA but from what I've read, battery life is poor and that's an important item. My search continues.

Wierd, I haven't noticed any screen blurring... that would be very annoying :)

As for the pointer, I don't know how the controls work in windows but i found in linux that the following settings work good without jumping-around-issues

    MinSpeed: 0.08
    MaxSpeed: 0.20
    FingerLow 25
    FingerHigh 30

Disabling the palm-detection might also help if you still can't get it to not be jumpy

I tried another model at a different store and the screen was not blurry like the first model. It pays to shop around.
