Sony lovers sure seem to think the Z is the way to go of course .... but I'm liking the P300 a lot ....

.... I still have that idea in the back of my mind to get the Z instead since it's coming to the Sony stores here in Canada ...

The Z is $400 more, spec's aren't that far apart ... better graphics in the card in the P300 ...

I'm not a gamer, watch a few video's and do some design work so the graphics speed is nice in the P300.....

.... although Sony fans say it just makes the P300 run hot and you don't need the graphics card for business apps...

    what to do ?

From what I gathered around here:

    P300 for gaming(plus a cooler).

    Z for everything else.

Though, if the Z is anything like the SR's build quality(amazingly thin and sexy! Feels very fragile, I was afraid I'd bend and break the lid/screen off!) I'd stay with the p300. I had an infatuation with the LG for months (and crossed eye aimed at the Vaio SR) the only thing holding me back was it's price, but if I could right now, I'd still pick up the p300. Then I'd under volt the crap out of the GPU(no need for gaming), get better battery life and temperatures while still having an amazing light, sexy and IMO, better built notebook for $400 less than a Vaio Z.

But thankfully, my lenovo t400 is on the horizon now. :D

anyone else have any input ... I'm thinking on returning my P300 and getting the new Sony Z on Friday ... that's the day it's released in Canada ...

It's going to hurt to part with the P300, I really like it ... but from reading here I think I may enjoy the Z a little more ?

what means hot? During office work my graphic card core has about 46-49°C. During heavy load like games etc. the temperature rises to 68-71°C. I think that's quite good. My CPU & harddrive also stay quite cool. During office work etc. the CPU cores are between 30°C and 38°C (underclocked & undervolted with RMclock and p300 in cool-mode) and during Heavy load they perform at about 45°C.

So I'm quite interested why many people complain about the temperatures. Do they just presume that the p300 is hot because of the relatively strong graphic card? It seems to me that most peopIe spread this statement without having made own experiences - only repeating what somebody might have assumed due to the strong graphic card etc.

that's my experience too, the P300 runs cooler than any notebook I've had so far, it's silent too, for the price it's not junk that's for sure, it's a great little machine ...

my dilema is wondering if buying the Sony Z will be that much better and worth the extra money.

If I wasn't going to keep the P300 the only other notebook I'd consider would be the new Z line

The P300 is to be replaced by the P310 soon with Geforce 9500M graphics. But I think it will also not be sold in the USA.

I wish the Vaio Z had the 9500M instead of 9300M, and I do not mind if the DVD drive had to be removed for an external one as I rarely use it.

I like that the Z's screen is 16:9 aspect ratio and has an option of 1600x900 resolution on higher end models. It can also switch from the 9300M GS to integrated graphics for longer battery life.

But if only it had the graphics card of these LGs which is a huge plus for me. Why can't both notebooks fuse together into the perfect one for me. :( :( :(
