The US doesn't get the good Samsungs either, and there are apparently BenQ and [other brand] 13" notebooks with Nvidia 8600GTs sold in Taiwan and the Ukraine.

I once read a rumor on these forums that LG/Samsung made a deal with Dell not to sell them here, but absolutely no proof was offered. Also, such a "deal" makes no sense to me. "Hey, please don't compete with us. Don't sell your products at all. Take this giant bag of money instead!"

I think the answer is that the Germans are a very precise and methodical people. Their labor force has the robot-like discipline to assemble laptops correctly, in the painstaking manner needed to keep the 8600 GS from exploding.

The US labor force is comprised of fat sloppy people. US P300s would burst into flames, as their insides would be filled with Cheetos dust and hot glue, with the 8600 GS haphazardly smashed into place, upside-down and backwards, by Sausage-Fingers McGee.

(I am joking of course. Everyone knows that all laptops are assembled by abused Chinese slaves.)

edit: I'm just glad that we can get the P300 from somewhere, even if we have to order from a German company, and use a wacky German keyboard with switched Z/Y keys. [You can also order a Canadian-English keyboard and replace it yourself, or pry off, switch, and remap Z/Y, as mentioned in the above-linked thread]

I may buy a P300 from the German company soon. If I do, I will post my experiences here, if I am not an old man with a grey bushy beard by the time the thing is shipped halfway around the world.

My biggest question is: Why the heck can't we just order the P300 from Canada?

I'd like to know why LG isnt' available in the US and the UK too?

It's amazing, they'd sell so many P300/310's in the States ... sure would like to know the 'real' reason. Licening, politcis, competition? We just gotta find out :)

thanks! this review helped me love LG more, but still hasn't answered the original question. Guess it's all speculation. Good thing I live in Canada.

I saw a couple LG P300 on Ebay for $900 last week. Told my roommate to buy one as I have the MBP already. Came out to be $700 with free shipping to the US after Live cashback.

that Deal about dell is actually VERY true if im not mistaken what happened was Samsung actually made some the dell latitude notebooks and dell made them sign a contact saying they wouldnt compete with them in the US i dont know about LG though. Leave it to Dell a company that Left its home country to give jobs to people outside of the world :D

If Samsung had some kind of deal with Dell, it's probably coming to an end because they are going to release laptops to the good ol' U.S. of A (I'm guessing in 2009).
