I've had my S1 for a couple of months now and couldn't be happier. Although, a problem recently popped up where my laptop is making a strange whistling or sort of a chirping noise. It's on and off, so I don't notice it all the time, and it's not all that loud. I notice that if I shut down my laptop completely, it goes away for a while when I turn it back on. Does anyone know what might be making that noise?

Woah I thought it might be just me! My T1 does this sometimes ... I thought at first it was my imagination but nope. It sounds like a ... faint whistling, or maybe a "wind" kinda noise. (No, it's not the fan :D)

As far as I can tell it sounds like its coming from the speakers at the front/bottom edge ... or at least that area. Check yours and see if it sounds like its coming from the speakers.

Thanks for this post so I know its not just mine ... its not a big problem but makes me wonder why it happens.

(PS. If it's more of a click/plunk noise that you're hearing, and not a whistling/wind noise ... it's likely the hard drive, but assuming the S1 uses the same type of HD as my T1 it is designed to lock the heads every so often, and so by design it makes that sound.)

I have the same thing happening to me, I've worked out that its the hard drive as it happens when the light comes on. I also notice it more when the computer is cold like when it has just resumed from being idle.

is this a big problem? how noisy is it? how long does it usually last? Does it only come when the computer is cold, that is, it will go away after it warms up?

I only notice it if the room is completely quiet and even then only if i listen for it. It also doesn't normaly last that long either.

The problem for me has gone away.. I think it has something to do with the power input, because the sound is nonexistant when I use it on battery power. But then again, I don't hear it at all anymore.
