    Hello!

Since installing Vista (Home Premium), my computer no longer detects my battery. The computer still runs for the usual amount of time on battery power, but the power option centre (Windows Mobility Centre) says 'No battery is detected'. When the computer is running on battery power, I am not given what percentage of battery life is remaining.

I just got the battery miser update and it says 'Battery Unknown'. Since installing the new battery miser, when I unplug my computer, it hibernates within 3 seconds. I think that this is because it is programmed to hibernate when the battery is at 5% (critical level). I know that I can change this setting or uninstall battery miser, but I would just like the computer to recognize my battery like it used to.

I am still using the battery that I got with my computer (P1) and have had it for less than a year.

I tried scrolling through the forums and MS help and didn't find anything.

Anyone else have this problem? Suggestions?

My friend had this problem before, but with Windows XP. What he did when installing XP was that he ran the installation on AC power without the battery, thus letting the OS "thinks" it's a desktop.

He reinstalled the OS under battery power, and he had his battery life indicator back. Hope that helps!

    That could be what happened.

I installed the OS on AC power with the battery in. If I don't find another solution, I will definitely try this one. Unfortunately, my OS installation discs are about 3000 km from me at the moment and I am not going back home for a month and a half.

    Thank you for your suggestion.
