    Hi there

I need some advice. Does anybody have any experience upgrading the lcd on an S1 from WXGA to WSXGA+? My LCD packed up and I am looking to replace it - if I can upgrade the resolution in the process I would like to... I have done much research and people generally have mixed results upgrading their lcd screen resolution - in general it doesn't work. I am more than comfortable replacing ribbon cable assemblies and inverters (if I can actually find the parts).

From what I can work out the Inverter, Ribbon cable assembly, BIOS, Motherboard and GPU on my model of S1 is the same as on some other models with the higher resolution... Though the information is rather difficult to come by, so might not be correct!

If anyone has any experience doing this it would be a great help.

Also, if I got hold of a WSXGA+ panel to test would I be risking breaking the panel and/or my notebook?

    Thanks

In the LG S1/P1 service manual it lists the following lcd panels in the parts list:

    Code:
LP154W01-TLB1 LG PHILPS TFT COLOR 15.4 INCH WXGA(1280X800) 200 NITS ANTI GLARE
    LP154W02-TL07 LG PHILIPS TFT COLOR 15.4INCH WSXGA+(1680X1050) 170NITS ANTI-GLARE
    LP154W02-B1K5 LG PHILPS TFT COLOR 15.4 INCH WSXGA+(1680X1050) 170NITS ANTI-GLARE
    HSD150PK14-C HANNSTAR TFT COLOR 15.0 INCH SXGA+(1400X1050) 200 NITS
LP154W01-TLB5 LG PHILPS TFT COLOR 15.4 INCH WXGA(1280X800) 200 NITS GLARE
The broken panel I have is the LP154W01-TLB1. Now there is only one ribbon cable listed in the parts list, so I'm assuming that means the WSXGA screens would be compatible with it? Otherwise they wouldn't be on the list right? I'm a bit worried about the fact that the cable description says XGA in it:

    Code:
    NCABL 6851B09275A 15.4 W LCD XGA CABLE AY 198*190 31 ROCKY 15.4W
Could that be a stumbling block? If it is I'm wondering why the SXGA+ cables aren't listed (if there are any) but the screens are?

The inverters listed all say SXGA+ (mine is 6708BI0098B)
    Code:
    NNVE1 6708BI0098B KUBNKM116A ALPS GENERAL SXGA+ LGP ROCKY-15W 15WP
    NNVE1 6708BI0098A KUBNKM116A ALPS GENERAL SXGA+ LGP ROCKY-15F ,14WT,15W
    NNVE1 6708BI0099A NIK07001.50 LOGAH GENERAL GENERAL GENERAL ROCKY-14WT ,15F,15W
So they're probably also alright I'd imagine?

The BIOS versions of all the S1 and P1 models are all the same (mine is updated to the latest version too) and my model has the best GPU shipped with the range (Mobility Radeon X1600).

Any help would really be appreciated, I'm looking at the LP154W02-TL07 as a replacement...
