    Hello everyone!

    I have just purchased an LG LW70-J3KA (new model). I pick it up on Wednesday and was just wondering if anyone knows what kind of memory this laptop takes?

    It comes with 512MB of ram and I want to upgrade it to 1GB. I would like to purchase the memory now if possible so that when I receive the laptop I can stick the memory straight in.

    I have tried looking on LGs website for it but I haven't had much luck. If anyone knows the answer, please let me know. If I can't find the answer here, I may be giving LG a call.

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers. :centrino:

    Hello Cybermatic,

    First of all welcome :D

    Usualy when the LG notebooks come out they come with the standard ram. Nothing to hardcore as OCZ or Corsair, More on the likes of OEM stuff like Infion(samsung) or other brands like that. If you want performance i'd say get something like OCZ's or Corsair RAM. Good stuff but comes at a cost. Anyways most likely the laptop RAM will come like the table below.

    256mb = 256mb Stick
    512mb = 2 X 256mb Sticks
    1024mb = 2 X 512mb Sticks
    2048mb = 2 X 1024mb Sticks

    Dont quote me on it but thats how i've seen LG do their Laptops. So your laptop would have 2 X 256mb sticks which means if you upgrade to 1024mb you would need to buy yourself 2 X 512mb or 1 X 1024mb which inturn will cost more money and leave you with a spare set of ram sticks.

    Hope you enjoy your new laptop.

    LG Life's Good!

    Thanks for the information Xplodin. I pick the laptop up on Wednesday so I will know for sure then how the RAM is setup in it etc.

    If what you say is true (512MB = 2x 256MB sticks) then I am prepared to purchase 2x 512MB or 1x 1Gb stick of memory and sell off the original sticks in an attempt to get back some money.

    I knew I would have to spend money to upgrade the memory so it isn't a big deal.

    I was more curious as to what memory the laptop takes however, I guess I will know that on Wednesday too.

    Thanks again.

    Cheers ;)

    My LW70-4JMA came with a single stick of 512Mb Hyundai DDRII.

    Upgrading it was simple... i just added another stick of Hyundai.

    Obviously i got another stick of the Hyundai ram to minimise any chance to memory issues when using sticks from different manufacturers.

    My LW70 also came with the one x 512MB stick which I upgraded by obtaining an extra stick from the supplier (Harvey Norman) Not sure what brand it is...
    Have also fitted a 100Gb 5400 HDD.
    Am very happy with my LW70, it's a pity that LG have such a low profile and the perception is they make 2nd rate product. So far my experiance with LG does not support that but I guess that time will tell.....

    It is replacing my desktop computer so hopefully it goes quite well.

    I will definitely let everyone know what it is like. With any luck, I can pick it up this Friday. I haven't got it yet unfortunately, still waiting for it to arrive. :(

    Were you able to get the Instant On features working again after the upgrade to the bigger HDD?

    I heard that becasue the Instant On stuff is stored on the HDD, it can be difficult to get working again after a format/HDD change.

    The J3KA I am getting comes with Windows XP Home and an 80Gb 4200rpm drive (as fas as I am aware) but I would like to put a 100Gb 5400rpm drive in it and install XP Pro on it. Will there be issues doing this?

    Thanks!
