Do you guys actually have TPM chips built in?

On the small sticker on the notebook there is a TPM chip logo, and a small * that says "on select models".

When I bought my notebook (in Hong Kong), they had two version. The LG S1 Express Dual and the LG S1 Pro Express Dual. I bought the "PRO" version and expected the TPM chip to be in it and the guy in the shop also confirmed that the PRO model has all these features marked with a * (wouldn't make a lot of sense otherwise anyway, and unfortunately except the TPM chip it really seems to be true).

Now it turns out that I don't have the TPM chip, and the non-pro also doesn't have it. They have no other models on sale in Hong Kong. What other "select models" are they referring to I don't know.

I understand that there are models available in other countries that come with TPM chip. You can imagine that I am very unhappy about the situation, because Vista and TPM was one of the things I wanted to try. I especially wanted to compare it to the speed and handling of PGP's Whole Disk Encryption, which I don't use on my boot drive because it makes my notebook slower and I am afraid something could go wrong.

When I turn on my notebook it says "No TPM chip or TPM chip has problems". I didn't notice this until I tried to get this to work with Vista because I had the graphical boot screen enabled, not the detailed boot mode.

By the way, I also don't have the ExpressCard/54 bus, I only have PCMCIA Type II. Wanted to use an eSATA card just to find out it wouldn't work :/

Im not completely sure about the TPM chip, but i think i did see a BIOS option in my S1 Pro for configuring it. The S1 is LG's premium line and would probably have all the features taht are on the sticker (except for Fine Bright if the screen is WSXGA+)

hmm....i thought it was integrated with fingerprint?
if you do a serach in windows for tpm u find tpm under the fingerprint software
but when i started up my comp if you look at the diagnostic screen, it quickly shows TPM missing or not properly configured, my bios doesn't show anything regarding it either so ima bit @_@

That fingerprint software also tells me I have no TPM chip. I've uninstalled it now so I can't really check any more (had no use for it).

The best thing is that I've contacted LG via email, and after about 10 days I received an email back with a phone number that I am supposed to call. I replied to them saying that I can't speak because I am deaf, and they just replied that they only offer service via that phone number. Anyway, I've called them and they asked me to contact LG via email because they are not sure how the TPM chip works. I slowly start to regret more and more that I ever bought something from LG.

My LG plasma TV broke down on the last day of the warranty (!!) which fell on a Saturday. I could not reach the LG service center by phone, so I went to their web site to fill in a contact form, printed it out, and also sent them a fax and recorded a phone message. At the next Monday I called them again, just to hear that they would not handle warranty cases for LG TV's any longer, I would have to call some other place. They handled the last cases it the Friday before, and at that said Monday another department would take over. Now it took me another day to get somebody who was responsible, and they told me for a day that I am out of warranty. They finally agreed to send somebody to take a look, and they indeed found that the complete panel needed to be replaced. And I was not sure until the last moment if they would insist on the 'out of warranty' or not, but luckily everything was fine at the end. I am not saying that they generally suck, but if you have to fight for your warranty and for answers to your questions I can't really recommend them to anyone else. On the other hand, buy a Sony, pay the premium, and then if something goes wrong is there really such a big difference?

Anyway, enough of my off topic talk now...

How do you know you have it, by Vista making use of it through the BitLocker, or because it shows you a message during boot? Any options in your BIOS?

Within my BIOS I can activate/deactivate the chip. If you have not this function, the conclusion would be that your S1 does not have this chip.

Mine threw up similar errors until I turned the chip on in BIOS, you have checked the bios to make sure it's turned on right?
