I'm considering getting a LG T1 ... it seems to have a great design and all of the features that I want. I am wondering for anyone who has one about the noise and heat (mostly the noise) from this laptop. My main complaint about my current lappy (ASUS Z70V) is that the fans are too noisy (even when not playing games, just doing normal surfing etc) and it gets too hot on the bottom to use comfortably on my lap (the left side gets a little too warm when gaming). I know that the LG T1 is not a gaming machine and that's fine by me, I realize now (about a year after getting the Z70V) that I really don't play that many computer games anymore ...

So if you could comment on the NOISE and HEAT of this machine I'd really appreciate it, thanks! :)

Those two reasons are probably the LG T1's best points. Low Voltage Dual Core = less heat & longer battery life, no fan noise.

Nice, thanks. I'll be going to CanadaSys on Monday to have my current lappy repaired, hopefully they'll have a T1 in stock so I can see it in person :)

Hmmm I wondered about that, I saw on one website (don't remember which, it was a non-English site) that stated the T1 is 1440x900, yet all the ones I see available in Canada are WXGA 1280x800. Unfortunate, but not a showstopper for me ... which store is this, and where is it (country) if you don't mind me asking? :)

I never made it to CanadaSys on Mon to check out the T1, I'll have to go later this wk -_-

im from singapore btw. pretty far away. i think all t1 should come with the 1440x900 screen. its also stated as 1280x800 on some brohures here but the real thing is 1440x900.

    the_hurricane, is yours 1280x800 or 1400x900? I'm 99% sure it'll be 1280x800 but just wanna make sure ...

no, it's the 1440x900. Is there even a 1280x800 version in existence?

Well the LG Canada site lists it as WXGA, 1280x800:

    http://ca.lge.com/en/prodmodeldetai...1-5300A9&modelNameLocal=&model=Select+a+model

As does the store where I'd probably buy mine if I got it:

    http://www.canadasys.com/online/product_info.php?cPath=187_209&products_id=751

Although I just checked another local store which lists it as 1440x900 ...

    http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=009616&cid=896

(Note that I do not recommend buying anything from Canada Computers.) So it seems there's two versions of this lappy ...

Hm... that's odd. I swear the part number on my LG box is the same as the one you linked to on the LG Canada webpage... but .. I double checked my display settings, and it is indeed 1440x900... Hm.. maybe they're changing all the screens to the 1280x800 res?

What is LG's policy on dead pixels? Also is this notebook fanless?

Not sure about dead pixel policy, but the notebook DOES have a fan. I've only heard it go on once in the last two months, and then only for 10-15 seconds.

Seeing as I actually bought the_hurricane's T1. I might be in a good position to answer some questions...

The screen is indeed 1440x900, but it is only a 1.5Ghz core duo (L2300), it is not the L2400, which is the 1.66Ghz Core duo. I believe all new T1 are the 1.66Ghz with only 1280x800 res...

Personally, I don't care about the extra bit of processing power, but the screen res is definitely a bigger plus for me.

What are you basing that on? Why would they release a 'new' version with lower resolution? They're listed as 1.66 & 1440x900 in most online stores.
Are you sure it's not a 1.66 cpu you've got, btw? Maybe it's just the multiplier or something.. Check BIOS.
I kinda had the impression that the T1 was a NEW model altogether... As in recently released.. Meaning there are no 'old' and 'new' versions of it with different specs. (Not outside of Asia at least)

I had an Asus laptop before my LG.

The fan noise was enough to irritate me to the point of not buying Asus again.

The fan only gets "loud" when I'm playing a demanding game. Even then it's still quieter than then an idle Asus laptop.

How's the 4200rpm hard drive compared to a 5400rpm one?

This looks like a sweet machine and thanks to all the posters for convincing me to get one.

One question - can anyone tell me if the T1 has got the lock slot in its chasis - you know, like for a kennsington type laptop cable lock?
