    Hi,

I am currently in South Africa, I am planning to get a LG notebook locally, but I am confused at the moment. Can you help me and give me some opinion?

    The two choices are:
    (1)
    LG P1 15.4" WXGA Fine Bright, 945GM, GMA950, Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz (T5600), 1GB DDR2 667, 100Gb HDD, DVD Writer, WLAN (802.11a/b/g),Vista Business
    USD 1,468.16
    (2)
    LG S1 15.4" WXGA Fine Bright, 945PM, M56 (256MB), Core 2 Duo 1.86Ghz (T7200), 1GB DDR2 667, 100Gb HDD, DVD Writer, WLAN (802.11a/b/g),XP Pro
    USD 1,823.29

I am basically use it for programming and watch movies. Not a gamer? Which one should I go for, I do like the S1 design, but would it worth 3XX dollar more for its design. The other concern is the P1 is coming with Vista. The last concern is I see some people have a problem with the P1 LCD light leak problem, is it serious?

    Thanks alot for your help.

    Best Regards
    Ferdinand

For almost 3,000 Rand less, you should go for the P1. But it has a weak graphics card. You don't need to buy the LG for its looks: maybe go for something not as good looking. For R10,000 you can get a better GPU in an Acer, HP, Packard Bell etc.

Oh, really? R11000, what can I get? for Core 2 Duo? Any suggestion on HP or Acer, I don't like Packard Bell though. Thanks for your help.

Cause I usually buy it online for better price, cause places like incredible connection is alot more expensive. The problem with online shopping is that you only see the photo. I do very much concern with its look though. Any nice looking PC with Core 2 Duo? that are ranging around R11000

Is Vista very important to your programming?

You mention that you want to watch movies, VISTA built-in DRM (Digital Right Management) is a hog continually polling the resources to check if you are not using a copy of the movie instead of the original.

The S1 can also be ordered with Vista, but I chose XP Pro instead which is a relatively stable platform with all the reuired drivers for my S1.

I hate to pay to do "Beta Testing" for Microsoft and each new release is getting bloattier then the previous one it replaces.

It always take Microsoft severall years to work all the bugs out of their software with their patches and I can't afford to have a buggy OS on my computers that I use daily for work.

The S1 might be a better choice for you as it's graphic engine is better then Intel GMA950 which might offload the CPU for HD Movies.

I have purchase my S1 one month ago and like it very much. LG's warranty is 3 years on the S1 and by purchasing it with my Gold Visa card, I gained a fourth year of coverage for free.

    Best regards

I would definitely buy the S1 :D. Core 2 duo T7200 has 4MB in cache instead of 2MB, but maybe if you are not a gamer you are going to waste the graphic card.
I personally don't like the HP nor Acer (I've had a lot of bad experiences), and I don't know Packard bell.

I bought mine like about 3.5 months and it's been perfect, I'm very happy w/ it. I use it mainly for programming and movies too.
I think that it is a little expensive but if the design is very important for you, then it's a good choice.

You should take a look in Asus notebooks, they make very nice notebooks too.

    Bye.
