    Hi all,

I was thinking about upgrading the ram in my S1 buy removing one of the 512MB sticks of ram and replacing it with a 2GB one (giving me 2.5GB), but I have read that both ram slots should contain the same size and type ram. Is this true?

If so how easy is it to get a the second ram slot under the keyboard?

It would be better having matching rams. giving you the benefit of dual channel. Accessing the ram under the keyboard is pretty easy, just be careful you don't scratch anything. All you do is gently insert a screw driver in the little gap on the top right corner of the keyboard, pull out the hatches and lift the top part upwards. Can't remember if they are any screws that need to be removed. Try youtube or wait for a second opinion :)

    Good luck!

If i were to use 2x2GB sticks, Windows would only recognize 3GB, from my understanding. Would it still take advantage of dual channel?

For now lets leave price out of the equation.

I first upgraded my 512 P1 with one more 1GB ram stick I’ve had 1.5gb of ram and everything was ok I used it like this for a long time I even installed and used vista Ultimate like this for a while .then after that I upgraded my ram to 2GB.. 1GB in every slot ..u can't use more than 3GB OF RAM WITH A 32BIT OS .u can use more than 3Gb only in a 64Bit OS.

So if I wanted 3GB would it be better to get 2*2Gb rather than 1x2GB + 1*1GB from a performance point of view.
