well i was very excited to get my computer from milestonepc.com today after the long wait. when it arrived i noticed that the seal of quality had been cut and i had assumed that it was maybe bacause they check their notebooks before they are shipped out or something like that..so i proceeded. after installing a couple of things and doing all the updates i decided to intall cpu-z just to make sure that everything was correct...i found somthing a little unsettleing. it showed that i was running single channel on one stick of 1gb ram running at 333 mhz...when i should have been running dual channel with 2 sticks of 512 mb ram each clocked at 667 mhz...here is a screen shot if it

i thought that maybe something was wrong with my copy of cupz so i went and downloaded an older version of cupz but only to come up with the same results...so i was wondering if maybe something is wrong with cpuz in general and that there is another program out there that i could double check with on this...or did i get jipped by the dealer and stuck with one stick of 1gb 333mhz ram???

    you weren't jipped..its DDR2 (double data rate)

it will display a clock speed of half the effective clock speed (hence the double in DDR)

yes you have 1 gb of 667 DDR2 ram

Well, if it was supposed to have two sticks of 512MB each, running in dualchannel, then yes, it's wrong. (But personally I'd prefer what you have now, as it means you can expand to 2GB later)

But as far as the memory speed itself goes, the above is correct, it is 667MHz memory.

1 stick of 1Gb RAM is better than 2 sticks of 512Mb RAM. If you ever wanted to upgrade to 2Gb in the future, you'd only have to buy 1 stick of 1Gb instead of 2. And if you're worried about losing out on dual channel until you upgrade, you're not going to notice much of a difference at all.

    cheers!

My S1 duo has 1gb ram. Does it have 4 slots or 2 slots?

    Does it come in 2 x 512mb sticks or 1x 1gb stick?

I want to upgrade to 2gb and am trying to work out what I must buy...

Wow, that's weird.. I have an S1 and it came with two sticks of 512, and I ended up having to buy 2 sticks of 1 gig to make mine up to 2 gigs of ram! Consider yourself very lucky..
