I have LG S1 and I know that it comes with 1GB Ram (2*512) but out of curiosity I decided to open the Ram Panel underneath the laptop and only one Slot holding 512 ram I can see there!!

I know its weird question but  ,
Where is the other 512 MB Ram slot located?
If I decided to install 2GB Ram (2*1GB) how I can do that if I can't see the other Ram Slot??

Attached picture of the Ram panel… (sorry of the poor quality cuz I used my cellular cam)

I'm not sure about this, but the RAM slot may be under the keyboard. Some manufacturers and notebooks have the RAM slot under the keyboard for some strange reason. It may also be that it is under the notebook, in some other place. Perhaps under a seperate panel. Before checking to make sure that the slot isn't under the keyboard, have a look at the manual for the notebook. It may say in there where it is. Hope this helps.

    Thanks Zero for the reply,
There isn’t any manual that came with it except few papers regarding the TPM device and how to start your laptop!!

I downloaded the e-User's Guide but I didn’t find any thing related to my issue.. I guess your assumption might be correct although it's kind of unusual and unpractical to have different places for the Ram(s) since it's the most upgradeable part in any laptop ….

Hmm you sure there isnt another RAM slot under that one? The Dell I got here has one slot ontop of the other.

Yes it is under the keyboard just make sure you buy the proper ram and make sure they are in pairs for dual channel.

M12864F50 Kingston last time i checked it was $199 just make sure it's 667mhz

Dual channel doesn't make much of a difference in performance, Infact it is almost nothing. There may be 1 to 2% difference. So, don't pay more money to get the same brand and same RAM as you have now. Just buy some normal 667 MHz (if that is what you have now), and upgrade with that.

Um but what about such things as latency and memory timings? if the RAM you buy is has more relaxed timings then you would be losing on performance. 1-2% is rather general, it would much greatly depend on the system. In the past dual channel may not have been a big issue but Im sure the impact is much greater now in modern setups. Compatibility may also been an issue here as can be the case more often than you think.

Dual Channel suprisingly still doesn't make a massive difference, even in modern day computers. Components have gotten much more efficient, and so the 128-bit interface isn't needed. For example, the chipset has gotten much more efficient with the way it handles the data, and so it doesn't need to request as much from the RAM. Things like latency and memory speed are more important than dula channel. If those things are what they need to be, the system will perform very well, and then you should consider dual channel.

However, dual channel will help a small amount in top class systems that have the newest and fastest components. It is not an increase that will help all circumstances, such as playing a game, but it will benfit those applications were the memory is intensively used. Yes, games use a lot of memory, however, they are more dependant on the speed of which the memory runs, and not how much data can be transmitted between the system bus, and the memory.
