    Hi,

I just purchased an extra gig of ram for my LG S1 laptop, but when I check the memory, it only says I have a total of 1024 megs. I've been fiddling with the memory for a good while trying to push it in as far as it'll go, but still nothing. I don't believe it is an issue with the ram as I replaced the first slot (underneath the keyboard) with 1 1 gig stick, and have tried placing the old ram and new ram into the 2nd slot (another 1 gig), but everytime i boot up and check my memory it says I only have 1 gig of total memory.

    Any ideas?

Does the inconsistency show up in the memtest at the start or in your operating system or is it both?

I'm a little unclear how you've swapped the RAM out. Have you tried all the sticks you have, the originals and the new ones, in each slot at least once, alone, to make sure no sticks are bad and that the memtest and the OS recognize each stick as being present? If every stick works fine alone, no matter which slot it's in, then it would seem like an issue with the pairing or a motherboard issue. According to this link your motherboard supports up to 4 gigs of RAM, so it's not a size limitation problem.

Did you originally have two 512 sticks or a single 1 gig stick? Are the two 1 gig sticks you're using now of the same type and brand?

If you run Memtest86 does it detect both sticks? Does it find any faults with either one if it does?

If all sticks work fine in all slots, and the RAM is misread in Windows and the startup RAM test, and Memtest doesn't see the second stick. All I can think of would be a motherboard problem that's resulting in it not being able to use both sticks at once or misreading them. Might want to check to see if there are BIOS updates available for your model.
