Hi. My buddy can't seem to find his second ram slot on his r405. Here's a picture of the area under the keyboard. I don't see anything obvious and it doesn't look too easy to remove those metal bits. The other sodimm is accessed from a nice door on the bottom of the machine.

I've searched all over and I can't find any mention of the locations for this series.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Its not under the keyboard. There appear to be two PCIe slots down there; one is the Turbomemory and the other is the WiFi NIC. Are you sure the slots aren't stacked? Take the memory out that's in there and see if there's another socket just below/above.

I wish I could read Korean; this site has great photos of the R405 partially torn down. http://www.notegear.com/content/con...opage=5&TNum=561&kind=2&SearchString=&Search=

Hey thanks beefman you nailed it. Here's the relevant picture from that link you sent me. The korean translation seems to attempt to explain why it's hidden away there but hard to say.

I figured a dual channel ram setup must have the second dimm close by, likely on the opposite side of the mobo. The metal cover didn't appear so easy to remove so it was better to find out first rather than rip stuff apart hunting for it.

Yeah under the touchpad somewhere. Directly opposite the ram underneath.

thanks i'll try it later this week!

    another two quesitons though:
    1) Do i necessarily have to take off the keyboard in order to take off the top layer

    and

    2) Will I have to disconnect any cables to reach this ram slot? or is it all just screws.

Sorry this is my first time I have ever opened up a laptop and I want to be very cautious

SO does anyone get access to the main ram yet? I opened the keyboard and unscrewed all screws from the bottom + the 4 screws on the metal part and still couldn't get it disassembled. Looks like the bottom part and the top are snapped together somehow, without the screws they are still tight.
    Need help. Thanks

Yes, there are plastic tabs around the edges holding the plastic together. I am not too sure about how many to take out, and I tried using a thin/sharp edge to get it apart, but I was afraid my prying may destroy the plastic panelling. Diagrams or manuals would really help! anyone?
