I've never had overheating problems with my LG R405. It keeps really cool.
With undervolting, my cpu never goes higher than 60 degrees celsius

i dont know if the same problem for my s1 is happening to some other models but heres what the lg tech said when i brought my overheating laptop to him

faulty wireless card -- was making most of the heat
dust -- i cant open it since i have the void stick on top of one of my screws

does you laptop turn off after like half and hour?
my s1 had a really big heating problem. it made part of my varnished wood blister a little and it was doing at least 80 sumthing heat.

Some background of how I treat my laptop...

I don't like shutting off my laptop. I usually keep it on, unless it requires a reboot (which windows requires a lot). It's running Vista 32. Overheating generally happens alot in the summer (I have no A/C) when the temperatures get over 30C, and when I'm running a few programs at once like my music player, videos and photo editing software. Although it happens in the winter when I'm running some intensive programs.

However, I think I have found a solution to the overheating. I d/l software to undervolt my laptop. I undervolt my 12x to just under 1V and progressively get lower. Since doing that, my computer has been running fine. I first tried the undervolting at 0.95V but the computer wasn't stable, so I had to raise it to around 1V for my 12x value. I also have a laptop cooler.

So with the above solutions, my laptop rarely goes over 65 C.

However, my one pet peeve now is my webcam. Sometimes it doesn't work, so I have to into sleep mode and out of it to get the webcam activated. Haven't found a solution to that.

Im having a great heat problem with my s1.. took it to a shop to clean dust and it got a little better but it is getting worse again =/
Now you say it may be from a faulty wireless card which seems plausible since that area is also very hot. Is there anyway to fix it since my laptop is not on warranty?

Can't help you there. But, my experience with my laptop has kind of soured me on LG laptops. I'll be very hesitant to buy another XNote. I'll probably go with HP, Toshiba or Samsung for my next purchase in a few years.

I don't have a problem with overheating, but sure would like to prevent it. However, I can't quite figure out how to dismantle the keyboard or the bottom part so that I can do some internal maintenance via dusting. Does anybody know how?

    Many thanks,

Yes, that is exactly the guide I used. My initial undervolt (1.5 years ago) worked well at 0.975 for all multipliers, but I did notice certain instability issues in Windows XP, so my voltage is now set at 0.9875.

It works really well, and never goes past 65 degrees.
