    Hey Guys

So I'm having graphics problems running Halo on my system.
    Specs are in my sig.

Now from what I've read about the 800 series from Nvidia it may be a hardware problem I'm not sure.

Can someone help or post in if they have the same experience?

    Thanks
    Jimmy

    hey dragon

Umm... first of all let me say I'm using the latest stock drivers from LG
I'm going to try and update the drivers for it soon.

When I play Halo I see particles, flickering, slowdowns, decrease in frame rate.

Now I was told that Vista may have problems with old games like that so I'm gonna update the drivers and see what I can do.

    I'll post my findings soon

nope, no problem at all. Im using lg stock driver version 176.75. Make sure to check your temperature when gaming. Usually GPU slows down when temperature is too high.

I find it really odd that gaming after 5 minutes would cause really high temperatures.

I just installed the latest drivers from Nvidia. I haven't had a chance to really test it out yet but I'll post my findings in a bit when I run longer tests.

For the most extreme case of course, try re-installing the OS and see if it works, or go XP, if it doesn't work could it be that its a faulty GPU :(

Yhaa I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed right now. I'm hoping it's the drivers lol because that's the last best solution I can come up with.

Re-installing is such a hassle, it'll practically take me two days just to do it with backing up files along with setting Vista back up again.

There are no major problems besides me gaming on it. Luckily for me I'm a light gamer.

I was just reading the threads regarding the faulty GPU's, And i think i was overreacting, yours show no sign of defectivness, im pretty sure it has to do with the drivers. and I haven't really seen a lot of threads of ppl having there GPU dying either,

lol I heard of a new OS Microsoft was working on but didn't know it was called Windows 7.

I'm not interested in installing a new OS especially when it is in beta phase.

Try it with another game, if there aren't issues then you know it isn't a hardware problem,

People claim the 8600GS is a defective chip. All I can say is after observing how my 9600GT work under both XP and Vista, I've come to see that the new OS's drivers are just plain inadequate. Take for instance, under Vista Ultimate my 9600GT would display my monitor's native res of 1920x1080 with black borders. I've tried every setting available in both monitor and Nvidia control panel to no avail. And this is Nvidia's latest official driver. So finally because of this and the super-suck Realtek audio driver, I resigned myself to XP.

So why not try this. Get yourself a cheap external HDD, install XP on it, and test the game again. If that doesn't work then report back.
