    Hi!

As 3D developer who travels a lot I want to get this laptop (as do we all :)

What is my best option? Should I order from notebook.de at $2159

    http://www.notebook.de/lg-p300-series-g-767/

Or use reQ-Ship and order from futureshop for $1800

    http://www.futureshop.ca/basket.asp?return=true&basketaction=basketactionadd&logon=&langid=EN

The German laptop has better specs and is easier if I ever want to claim the warranty... Is it possible to order it at all from anywhere else in Europe? Netherlands would be excellent for me, but also anywhere closer is also good. Thanks!

You wont have to pay tax from the EU, so I suggest you buy from Germany.

beefman has dealt with notebook.de before, hes left some information on this thread (post #3) that might help.

It would be really interesting to know how you get on with acquiring this laptop. I would love to buy the LG myself, but I'm put off with the process since I'm in the UK also. Keep us posted!

so I just got off the phone from the German sales representative about the laptop. Everything seems good, but ordering with a UK keyboard layout will delay my order by 3 weeks! So I will be getting a German keyboard :(

Because I don't have a credit card, I have to deposit the money in their account before I get a reply email and then they ship.

Does anyone have any idea how to swap the keys on the LG P300 laptop? It could work, right? :)))

I wouldn't have a clue how to do that genjix, you could always leave the keys as they are and remap them instead, saving yourself some trouble.

What configuration have you settled on? Can you give me an idea of the price & shipping?

It seems like this was easier than I had expected. I'm getting really tempted. I'd like to hear about your impressions of the laptop once it arrives. I'm getting really tempted now and I might bite the bullet.

There's only one config in Germany at present. P300-U.ABRAG. Also, you needn't wait that long for the keyboard. I had one in approximately 8 days including ground shipping from Canada. Give Compudata a call and tell them you need a P300 english keyboard. It'll be in english/french but the French is secondary (silkscreened in green) and the English keys are all where you'd expect them. I think it was like $60 with shipping?

Price with shipping for the notebook from Germany was ~$1980. Your credit card company may put 1-3% for the foreign exchange. At most, I'd think $2,050. IMO the add'l year of warranty is very much worth it.

    Hi!

So 4 days ago my laptop finally arrived... not because of delay from notebook.de shipping (they were perfectly on time), but because I wanted to have it shipped from London to Sofia afterwards and there were many delays there. The website had very quick responses to my emailed questions.

The laptop is extremely light and small, and the benchmarks I ran so far were amazing. The laptop is nothing short of stunning for me. Also Linux runs perfectly fine with all the hardware and functions supported.

BUT, LG lists the battery capacity as being 5200 mAh, but when I checked the acpi information in Linux, it told me that the last full capacity was 5000 mAh... I've contacted notebook.de about being given an old (probably used) dud battery but heard no reply yet... Let's see how they handle this :)

btw, is it accurate to use the information from

    ~$ cat /proc/acpi/battery/CMB0/info

under 'last full capacity' to claim a new battery if it doesn't match the 5200 mAh listed on LG's website specs? Thanks.

I think /proc/acpi/battery is the right way to judge. Have you had contact with lg?
Also, nice that you had good experience with linux /p300! Could you post some more details about what you had to do to make it work, and what exactly works? What distro, 32/64 bit? Did you get hibernation and suspend-to-memory to work?
There's a dedicated thread at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=275509 . Do you have anything to add?
What's your experience now when you had it for a while? What battery time do you reach, at the most? Do you like the screen?
    Is it quiet?

    best, J
