Living in the US and wanting the S1, I have decided to order one from Germany. I have been told via email that after speaking with LG, the warranty is international.
Are there any customs issues to know about?
The unit is in stock and can be shipped via UPS arriving in about 7 days.
    Any feedback on Notebook-shop.de?
    Thanks

I considered this too but... wouldn't it have a German keyboard layout? Is that easily delt with via a software/OS, or can they stick a US keyboard on there? Or can you obtain one from LG yourself & swap it out?

Don't any of the Canadian dealers have any? Easy to order from across the border, you just need to find a dealer that will ship to the U.S. NCIX does, so does Onlineelectronics. No duties, good service, still have the international warranty!

Didn't even think about the keyboard being German!
As for buying in Canada, to the best of my newly aquired knowledge, the Canadian models don't offer WSXGA screen.......only WXGA (and only 80 gig HD).And more importantly, can't find it in stock anywhere.
Oh well, I will look into the keyboard issue.

    Any feedback on Notebook-shop.de?
I know they have answered my emails promptly and professionally.

    Thanks again to all.

I think it's just that the German S1-MDGAG is typically offered as a slightly better equiped machine than the S1-P400A9.

Notebook-shop.de in particular lets you configure the S1-MDGAG, which for whatever reason is not typical of vendors offering the S1-P400A9.

Do we have a confirmation on the S1-MDGAG's screen res anywhere? Has anyone been able to determine if it's really WSXGA, or is that just more vendor spec misquoting?

francodanco if you end up pulling the trigger... you GOTTA enlighten us when you get it :p

I am waiting on an email regarding the keyboard issue, as well as confirmation on the screen resolution. Unfortunately with the time change across the pond, I have to wait till morning for my my answer.

I do promise lot's of pics and reviews if I do indeed pull the trigger!
    Thanks again.

    Take a look here:
    http://de.lge.com/prodmodeldetail.d...Id=09&modelCodeDisplay=S1-MDGAG&model=NOTHING

It says "- Lichtstarkes und kontrastreiches 15,4" WSXGA Display (1680x1050) " so the display resolution is indeed 1680x1050

By the way, i'm german but never ordered at Notebook-Shop.de but if you take a look here: http://geizhals.at/deutschland/a191341.html
you will see that it has an excellent grade (which is given by users) though it's not the cheapest offer and only 19 users posted their experiences eith this shop so far.

If I were you, I would try to order it at Mindfactory - it's a quite big and well-known shop over here and therefor I can assure you it's professional.

I'm ordering the S1 from notebook-shop.de. German keyboard is not a problem for me eventhough i'm from finland. You can change the positions of the buttons anyways.. I have also mailed to them and they seem to be very professional.

Well I received notice from notebooke-shop.de that keyboard is indeed German layout with English version not available. I sure am glad I posted here first.

Does anybody know if any Canadian Units will be available with the WSXGA screen?

Well I have found a Canadian vendor willing to ship to the US..Evolution NT..

My only concern is the screen resolution..... 15.4" WXGA

I suppose I need to go to a local BestBuy/Comp USA and try to compare in person the two resolutions.

    Any comments/opinions WXGA vs. WSXGA?

    Thanks again.

    uh... hmm lets see.

I've called LG regarding this exact same issue.

Now for North America, the majority of people like Glossy screens.

This results in having a WXGA glossy screen, but if you want WSXGA+ you get Matte.

    so that's one thing.

The WXGA glossy screen looks AMAZING!, where as anything lower than the Quality of the Z70va WSXGA+ Matte screen, i personaly wouldn't be happy.

Put that all aside, yes you definately need to check the LG models out in person.

PS: I suggest you buy or Wait for ASUS W3J and V1J.

PS: the LG models have questionable build quality, i've seen my friend's Avertec ultra portable, and it had alot of flex in the wrist rest, and then cracked with in 1 year where the wrist and the bottum of the chasis meets, its a small crack, but this is what can happen when there's too much flex.

    hope this helps,

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Go to Harvey Norman, they sell the P1 there. Or if you want the S1 go to www.computeralliance.com.au.

    Cheers

I was actually really hoping to get the T1 for my girlfriend. She's had her eyes set on it from their global site.

Also, from what I've seen, they only have a 1.66GHZ PM Dual core ont he P1 and S1's in Australia. But in Asia they have up to 2.0-2.20GHZ?

Cool, thanks Nikkon. ^^ I'll try and look for the S1-P3B3A.

Edit: Thanks once again Nikko. That S1-P3B3A is absolutely amazing, and in a good price range. My girlfriend is convinced. =) Me, however, I might think about getting a Sager when they come out with dual core. Of course, I hope there are more options available with LG when that happens.

Anyone know the warranty for S1-P3B3A is one year or 3 years? I saw on LG's website only cover 1 year international warranty. But for this price range of notebook should cover more than two year.

I noticed on LG website as well as various ads, with the Canadian version S1-P400A9, the graphics (x1600) is listed as "Up to 512mb Hypermemory" Whereas the European version describes graphics as "256mb with 512mb available Hypermemory". I understand the concept of Hypermemory but does
anyone know if Canadian version is with 256mb dedicated or could it be only 128mb?
I might be able to live with WXGA instead of WSXGA but if the X1600 is only 128mb dedicated that's a deal breaker.
    Anyone with more insight?
I've called LG but closed for the weekend.
    Thanks.

I think the S1-P3B3A has the 256MB x1600, but I think the other has the 128BM. I could be wrong though.

Anyone knows how the 256MB one holds up for gaming?

Just purchase the 2 years extend warranty. It will coast A$295 for 2 years extend warranty in Australia. Then you won't need to worry about any problem.

I must admit, I finally saw one for myself in a store. They are one of the most beautiful notebooks I've *ever* seen. *drools*

I really wish they were powerful enough for what I'd be using one for...

Let me all save you the time and grief of purchasing this laptop. I recently purchased an LG S1-P400A9. It was the worst decision of my life. Within the first 2 weeks of using it, the power button broke. You can well imagine the amount of usage I got out of that laptop with no functional power button. I returned the laptop to LG... never and I mean never send anything to LG Customer Support. It's been almost 3 months and I still do not have my laptop back. I emailed to see about getting a refund from them and now they refuse to answer any of my emails.

So please, please save your dollars and patience and don't buy this laptop. With any luck I might see my laptop again sometime next year.
