My optical drive (on my LW40) is *very* noisy. As in "can hear it easily on the other side of a room" noisy, at least when installing software (or when it starts up when I boot up with a CD in the drive). I've yet to try watching a DVD on it, but if it's that loud when watching a DVD it would definitely be super annoying.

It's a spinning/vibration type of noise. Similar to say, a room fan.

Any suggestions? I was thinking there might be a way to slow it down and see if that helps, but if there is I don't know how.

Maybe the motor is just old/needs replacing? Or if not broken or dirty or out of place.
Sorry I can;t be of much help.

Being old isn't the problem, it's done it since it was brand new.

Always the possibility of Faulty Components.
If its under warranty there is always that alley.
