Hey, as stated in my previous thread, have got my new P300 and loving it. I have a few questions related to me not being the most tech savvy in general as well as relating to this computer...

1 - This computer was lightly used, however it appears that the previous owner did a pretty good of getting his personal files off of it. It appears that it just has Vista (Home Premium, 32 bit) and other misc pre-installed files. I looked at the C Drive and it is showing that 50gb are used up (181gb free of 231gb). Is this normal? Is this model known to have a lot of useless pre-installed stuff?

2 - Should I do a clean install on Vista? Will that help with my question above? If it's a good idea, perhaps someone with knowledge on the subject could give me the step by step idiot-proof instructions for doing so?

3 - Their is currently 2gigs of ram installed (2 DIMM) and the owner has supplied an extra 2 gig stick to bring the total up to 3 gig. If anyone has done a similar upgrade, perhaps you could fill me in on the steps involved.

Thanks, sorry for all the idiot questions.

Hi there, my advice would be to format it all and do a clean install of vista yourself.

If you plug your dvddrive into the usb, you will be able to boot on your vista dvd, and there format / delete the partitions and remake them as you like.

about the memory its very easy, you remove the 4-5 screws on the backside that connects the keyboard, and after that there are 4 small plastic tabs at the top and buttom of the keyboard that you can slide to the side to release it. Underneath you will see the memory slots :)

Thanks, so for the clean install, I just hook up my external drive, and insert the disk and go from there? To be honest, I could use a bit more info on formatting / partitions / etc. I understand the basic concept, but not much more than that.

yes, just boot from the cd to get started.

i'm not sure how you'd set up vista, but this is how you'd set up xp:
    1. boot from the cd.
    2. get main screen. select option to delete partitions.
    3. delete all partitions.
    4. select option to create new partition.
    5. specify partition size in megabytes.
    6. select format option (i always choose ntfs full).
    7. after the drive is formatted, you'll go right into the os installation process. just follow the prompts.
    8. once you've loaded the os, you must format the other partition to see it. you can do this from the disk management console (in xp, run > diskmgmt.msc).

hi, so i'm also very close to buying a p300 but i'm just wodering about a few things:

1-how reliable is LG in terms of laptops? because i know their cell phones arent the greatest, but i dont know much about their laptops.

2-i've heard some things about the heat that is generated while gaming (which i would expect considering the 8600 is a 13.3") but i was wondering if the combination of putting the laptop into "cool" mode and a cooling pad would make the heat much less that i won't have to worry about the gpu having problems (remember the nvidia gpu problems of overheating and dying early....)

    thx :)

my opinion is buy it, our P300 doesn't make a sound, fan never comes on, and doesn't get hot, compare that to a Dell XPS 1330 it's 'cold' and quiet.

you'll love it ... some people say buy the Sony Z that's just released, for $500 more I can't see it ?

P300 is easy to re-instal and format your HDD.

They make things so simple... just pop in the LG DVD and follow simple instructions.

    and thats it.. :)
