    Multiple (?) Issues with LG A1/Dual Express and Driver Conflicts

    Hi. I'm new to this, so I'm going to ask someone to help in as forensic a way as possible so that I don't have to come back again if a similar problem strikes.

    Essentially I have an LG A1/Dual Express with Windows 7Home Premium. It was previously a Vista Business machine but when the opportunity came to upgrade I took it. Since then I seem to have had nothing but issues with it, specifically revolving around sleep/hibernate. It seems related to a driver issue, possibly one of the following - CSR Bluetooth/Intel Wireless Adapter/Realtek Audio/unspecified Intel driver or the nvidia driver.

    I have tried every new driver available for these devices, across multiple iterations, to no avail. Laptop frequently fails to shutdown on critical battery action, resulting in having to boot to safe mode. Hard reset sometimes required due to black screen of death. Wireless adapter often fails - when auto-resolve is attempted, bluescreen of death reveals a kernel error of various descriptions.

    Event log viewer shows a ridiculous amount of problems I have no idea how to resolve. Could someone instruct me what information is pertinent to post here, step by step, in the hope of isolating the problem(s) and resolve them? IE, minidump logs, event logs, system info, etc etc.

    Your help is appreciated. I had considered I may have a failing hard drive or RAM but this may not be the case. Also, have not been able to flash/update the BIOS to see if that resolves anything - I do not want to make current problems worse!

    Help and patience appreciated - I really want to take my laptop on the road with me but at the moment its often a bit of a pain. Tried the Microsoft Answers forum and was shut down by someone simply saying that the only drivers I can use must come from the manufacturer, any other drivers will result in these problems. That was the extent of the help I got.

    So, anyone steer me in the direction where I can get official drivers for the LG A1/Dual Express for Windows 7 without having to plow through a Korean website I can't understand? Or is there anyone who can look at some logs and say - 'here's your problem mate'?

    Brendan, I'd recommend you uninstall Windows 7 from your notebook immediately. You mentioned your laptop frequently shutting down with critical battery action. Your issue sounds to me to be this very battery issue, and not one with incorrect drivers etc. In short Windows 7 has a fatal battery flaw that is killing batteries permanently in all versions of Windows 7 all over the world.

    In it, you can find information and various links to the battery issue. It's a serious one and can permanently fudge your battery. People have reported buying a brand new battery and it not even lasting a week before it was destroyed and completely nonchargeable.

    It seems from your experience you're having many problems. For the drivers, what you were told by Microsoft is baloney. You can download the chipset drivers from Intel, if your notebook has an Intel chipset. Sound drivers from Realtek, video drivers from Nvidia/ATI etc. You don't need LG to provide these for you, the other companies have already provided them. Rather you need to work out what chipsets and components are in your system and then goto their websites and download the drivers yourself.

    But really I can't recommend enough to ditch Windows 7 for the time being. Even if you cure your driver issues, you won't be able to cure the battery killing bug until Microsoft are forced to by law, or admit there is a bug. In time either one will occur, it's just a matter of making do until then.

    Thanks for that - uninstalling Win 7 is not really something I was hoping to have to do, but it remains an option I guess. I really want to know how to actually isolate problems from the various tools Windows provides and resolve them - I'll keep looking. Cheers.

    Well as of now, there is no fix for the battery issue. For the other things, having the right drivers will certainly help.

    Computer companies are notorious for not keeping an up to date listing of drivers on their websites. So you really have to know what's inside, so that you can goto the different component companies websites to get the latest.
