    Hi Guys!

I'm about to buy the LG LS70 and i wanted to konw if there is anybody out there who alreday has this notebook. I'm from Austria Europe and this notebook is available here at about $1.684,9. These are the first notebooks of LG released in Europe (as far as i Know) and i want to know something about Lg notebooks. I read that the LM70 seems to have an heat issue but this might result from the very lightwight. Do you know waht kind of Display LG screw up do they have their one panels or use they other ones?
Can you tell me your experiences with LG and what known problems this brand has?

    thanks in advance

    christian

PS the configuration i'm lookin at is
with 1,73 ghz raden x600 with 64MB and 80 GB harddisk

Actually this was the second time when I ordered an LM70.

My first order was couple of months ago but unfortunately I had to send the notebook back because it had one dead pixel in the middle of the screen. However, LG didn't have another LM70 on stock (in the entire country) so I had to wait for the next series to come out. I didn't really care about the delay because I thought the newer the better.

But the new configuration had only a 2ghz Pentium M instead of 2.13ghz PM(that the previous notebook had).

What I'm trying to say is that maybe LG did realize the heat problem that's why it reduced the size of the processor.

Personally I don't care about the smaller CPU because this way I could get the LM70 for a much lower price. But I would definitely care about a possible heat issue.

    Hi

I read it on this page and i thought you all know this issue that´s why i didn't include a link ;-)

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2390

I dont know what happened there but it was quite disappointing and my notebook should be able to run at least two years night and day and because of this i want to avoid anny heat issue.

wow.... this is one bad review!!!! :(

What shall I do now??? Cancel my order? The notebook should get here tomorrow...

What do you think? Keep in mind that my LM70 only comes with 2ghz PM but with more ram (1024mb) and more video ram (128mb).

I'm getting pretty nervous here.... maybe I've spend $3000 for something that's not worth the money...

    Hi!

i think you shouldn't be afraid. i don't know what you are going to do with your notebook but there are many other user here and around the world who are totally happy with their choice and we dont know in which temperature these tests were made ...
The only thing that you should be aware of is that the air sucke in on the underside so you shouldnt take your notebook anywhre where the airflow is hindered..
so I´m soory that i made you nervous i just wanted to get some opinions and didnt want to make you nervous
And i dont know how it is somewhre else but here in europe we can bring back anythig we bought online within 14 days without any problems and in this time you should be able to know if your notebook fits to your demands

and on the other hand are you from canada? there should the heat issue no Problem ;-)))) just bee happy that your fingers are kept warm while working
( sorry for that i know it can be hot in canada but it fits to our image of canada)

    Thanks for your reply.

Actually I'm happy that you brought my attention to this issue. This is indeed a big problem that I should be aware of before purchasing this notebook.

I don't think that I can send back my LM70 within 14 days because I've bought it from a regular retailer (he just had to order it from LG that's why I don't have it yet.) However, what I could do is to cancel my order now.

I just got off the phone with the retailer and he told me that he could not believe that LG's most expensive, premium notebook has any flaws.

Even though LG manufactured parts of IBM and HP notebooks in the past it just started its own notebook line recently. So basically if its top of the line notebook fails its entire notebook branch would fail as well. Therefore it's hard to believe that LG hasn't done enough heat testing before releasing the LM70s.

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself right now.... still don't know what to do tomorrow...

If you have any more ideas please let me know.

PS: I play games sometimes, this was one of the reasons why I decided buying a top of the line notebook. And I'm from Hungary (just next to you buddy :) ) so heat could be a problem as well (especially during summer).

ok it was a bad guess with canada ;-)

i think you should be happy that you made your decision bying this notebook and if there is a big heat problem and the notebook doesnt work as it should (like in the review) you can bring it back for sure.

so my advice is be happy play some games durning miday and check the performace and if everything is alright you should be an lucky owner of a fantastic notebook ;-)

by the way what kind of dealer have you that you could cancel your order at night??

I'm just so worried about this purchase!!! Still don't know what to do...

I'm thinking to buy an LG LS50 for 1000 euros instead and get a more expensive notebook a year from now...

Sorry for getting emotional here but I've been reading forums, reviews for more than a year!!!! And I finally came up with the LM70... but now I feel all this research was completely useless... I'm just so frustrated.

It's just a regular retailer... however, I have his cell phone number! ;)

    Hi!

My LS70 is just about 2 weeks old now. I must say that I´m very pleased with it! I cant compare it to any other notebook than my iBook G3 500Mhz and thats not much of a reference is it...
The LS70 is quite small for it screensize, alltough not quite as thin as the LM series. It does get warm, but I can´t say that it has effected the preformance(as in the review of the LM) or the usabillity.
I have already contacted the LG support about TV connectivity, and they where very helpful! (in sweden atleast...) I would defintly recomend anyone not looking for a ultraportable to buy the LS 70.

    I just canceled my order...

It would be too risky to pay so much money for a notebook that might not even work properly.

    Bye LM70!

now i feel bad because i stopped you from getting a notebook and you have to start the search again

but you might be right in not risking something and if you really don´t need such a light notebook you shouldn`t buy it.

Good luck finding another notebook ;-)

    @Fiffi

So you seem to be happy with you LS! Thats good news. What can you say about the feeling of the notebook and how is it manufactured? would you say that it has a premium feeling?
Have you tested the built in microphone yet? it is placed at the right corner of this notebook and do you cover it while typing? Sounds strange but it is rather important to me because i use skype a lot and i dont want tu plug in an external microphone. And if I`m allowed i would also ask if you are satisfied with the Speakers?

    tack från Österrike

    Hej!

I would say that the build quality seems to be about the same as the iBook, if you can relate to that... From what I can tell its an all plastic construction and you do get some squeek(?!) noises due to that, but the over all quality feel is good(screenlock, touchpad, keyboard and the battery fastening mechanism is all very good).
My father just bought a HP nx7010(if that is a better reference) that I would say has little more "premium" feeling due to the Al casing but besides that the feeling is about the same as the LG.

I tested the microphone very quick without any adjustments, and the volume seems quite low, but I imagine that it is possible to fix. It is possible to cover it while typing, but avioding it ain´t no hassle...

Feel free to ask more questions, if you have any...

What a load of crap about heat issues. I've got a LG LM70 Express and have had it for 4 months without any heat issues, including running Battlefield 2 on it for several hours. It is all to often when misinformed people read and believe reviews from people. Obviously it is only 1 persons opinion against another and i can tell you for sure that this notebook is a shining diamond.

Sorry to hear that people threw you off purchasing the LM70.

With heat it is the same like noise everybody has different feelings about that.
And since i own the LM70 (yes i bought it although) i can say it is getting hot but i do not think that it is getting too hot and it will cause problems.
and you are right this notebook is a shining diamond;-.)

I searched a lot the internet about the lm70 and i think you have to consider erything you can get and you have to decide what is important and what not.
