Bought a LW70-J3KA the other day:

    Highs: Great Screen.
    256mb x600 PCIe! - It gets me 4000 3dmarks on 3dmark03 - not bad for a lappy me thinks ;)

    Lows - It only sports a PM 730 1.73 processor & one stick of 512 DDR2 RAM :(

So - I want to upgrade my RAM then eventually my CPU if possible.

    RAM:
I've found this isn't as straight forward as I thought and I think I have already stuffed up by buying a 1gig stick. This is a problem I think due to the dual channel config of memory. Has anyone got any suggestions on how I can save this stuffup? Should I sell my 1gig stick and buy 512mb or is there a way to disable dual channel - there must be a way as the lappy comes with only one stick of ram to begin with! The reason I say this is that it seems that dual channel has minimal effect on performance (see http://www.tomshardware.com/mobile/20050119/sonoma_alviso-23.html) so having 1.5g RAM with dual channel somehow disabled may be the best mem config I can get for this system. I dunno - any advice welcome!

    CPU:
LGMAN and ONLINE - in previous posts there seemed to be some suggestion that the cpus in these units were upgradable -is this true? If so, where do you get them?

    Thanks guys!!

DUal channel doesn't make a big difference, most people will put one 1gb stick and leave the other if upgrade was ever needed. Dual channel automatically enables and disables itself if I recall correctly.

Theoretically, the Pentium M's are upgradable as long as its in the same family and the LG LW70 is, but remember it voids your warranty!

    Thanks Coriolis!

I was hoping dual channel disable would be automatic - but wasn't sure - have been scratching my head on that - thanks.

If I upgrade the cpu it won't be for a while yet - so the warranty won't be a factor!

Well, not so bad after all - time for a game of doom! :D
