    G'day all,
just got my lappy in the mail and have been installing Linux (fedora core 3) on her. I must say I am somewhat dissapointed with the brightness of the screen (under linux and XP). I had read all the raves about how it was as bright as the sony xbrite but without the reflective coating (I had a xbrite sony but sold it cos of is power hungry p4 chip but the screen rocked even outside) ?? Me thinks not, perhaps they changed the screen on the LW70 - I have wxga 15inch version - the res. is ok but my laptp of three years old seems to have a screen as bright as my new LW70 ??? The screen seem a little blue compared to my current old compaq ( I did adjust the gama of the LW70 so it looks a little better now)

Seems like a nice machine but only I only get about 1h 45mins on the battery (linux with no acpi and screen at full brightness, wifi on and music playing) Your comments - perhaps I should of got a sony S series?

    Richard

Xbrite, crystal view...name it. They look great but they reflect alot of light. I personnally don't like the "glare" coating on laptop but highbrithness and wide angle view LCD are great. Wish to see the LW70 with the same LCD panel but without the glare coating on it.

I've yet to see the LW70, although i should be getting my hands on one to review soonish...

the screen on the lw70 is different, but I haven't seen it yet so I can't comment on comparison.

The battery life doesn't sound very good, however you should check the battery life in windows, or after playing with acpi... By default, linux has little to no power management (well, sometimes. I've heard Ubuntu has some good power management stuff by default)

I'd be surprised if 1hour 45 min was the max you could get out of that thing

If the screen is the same I definitely have a dud screen cos my pal has a del latitude 505 and I tracked down the brightness to be 150 nits, putting my LM70 next to her computer one can see how sucky the brightness of the LM70s screen is!!

Perhaps I'll have to send it in or get an LM50. Ennoia - are you sure the screen is not the same as the LM50 ??? Perhaps I should swap mine for a LM50 - its just that I like to sit outside in the sun at coffee shops and work and a dim screen sucks! Serves me right for not looking at it first :(

I believe they have three screen options.. the 1024x768 normal, 1024x768 glare, and 1400x1050 non-glare ...

    Which one does yours have?

If you use it outdoors, the reflective coating ("glare") is probably what you want.. that's what makes the xbrite screens usable outside.

I have the 1400 x 1025 screen. I wasn't aware that this was not a non glare screen! My bad I guess but I will never buy another computer without seeing it in the flesh first or with a return policy :(

I have since returned this unit to LG in canada and the screen and inverter board were replaced but still same brighness! Don't get me wrong, I was impressed with the service from LG and onlineelectronicsinc but I just wish I would of know about the srceen brightness. So anyone want a LM70 ???

    G LM70 with extra 9 cell battery.

    LM70 Pentium M 750, 512MB DDR2 533MHz, 80GB SATA, 15" SXGA+, ATi Radeon x600 128MB, 802.11b+g, XP Pro, DVDRW.

I have had this pup for less than a month and made the mistake of buying it without looking at the screen. I need something that is a little brighter hence the sale. I paid over $3000 for it with the extra battery so no tire kickers/low ballers please. It comes with a 3 year warranty. Will only ship inside US. Perhaps consider trade for lappy with brighter screen but exbrite is too reflective for me and this screen was meant to be the ****.
It was purchaced at onlineelectronicsinc.com - Full specs are here.

Just to clear up any confusion in regards to the topic of this thread, the screen he is talking about is the LM70, not the LW70.

The LW70 is a reflective and very bright screen, the LM70, while bright, is not reflective or "glare".

The Sony S Series is an Xbrite screen, which is equivilant to the LG Glare screens.
