Since some time I have an LG LW70 laptop. It is great, but the hard drive is a little bit too slow... (4200RPM only!)
I would like to change it for 7200RPM but I am not sure about the heating. I am thinking about Hitachi 7K100 hard drive (80GB, PATA) or Seagate momentus 7200.1 (same specs). Since the rotation speed is increased, I wonder if it will not cause the overheating of the laptop? Does anybody knows if the hard drive I mentionet have similar operating temperature to the buit-in 4200RPM hard drive?

PS. Does LW70 has an SATA controler?

It will have more heat then usual, but not overheating, you'll have warmth above and around the HD area, due to the faster rotation speed and lack of ventulation and fan, but its no biggie. Noticeable in heat, but noticeable in performance :)

I'm pretty sure the LW series all have SATA compatiablilty, check their site, but I'm very sure it does.

    Thank for a clue coriolis!
Does anybody maybe knows the exact temperatures produced by the built-in fujitsu MHV2080AT and one of the mentionet 7200RPM hard drives?

Well, it depends on usage, so it's hard to say.

It's usually nothing big, and a really good upgrade.

If anyone on this forum would be interested, I've found the temperatures of operating hard drives:

    Fujitsu MHV2080AT: 45-47 degree Celcius
Hitachi 7K100: max 55 degree Celcius
Hitachi E7K100: 40 degree Celsius (but higher power consupmtion than 7K100)
