    Hello guys,

I have this beautiful LW70 notebook. Huge, gorgeous, bright screen. Quiet. Cool. Just the best notebook ever.

So I decided the only problem was that it needed more RAM. It was paging a bit and I need to add VMWare and run Linux or Solaris eventually.

I went to a little computer man and he sold me what he claimed is the correct 1GB DDR memory for the machine. It is a:

    WINTEC PC2-4200-1G/200P
    380134281A
    W25694
    2RANK

(Well that is what is written on the card).

Ever since I have had the memory in the system occasionally freezes. Just stops dead. Normally when scrolling information in Xterminals (that may be coincidental).

Maybe I should have gone back to the dealer to buy the memory? DId I get the wrong memory? I read somewhere about Corsair vs Kingston - does that enter into the equation?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Joel.

The LW70 notebooks use the 915 Chipset. This uses DDR2 Ram. Not DDR, but DDR2.

    Get DDR2-533
    LG LW70 use DDR2 memory.

Buy Kingston or Corsair and make sure it is DDR2 and you shouldn't have a problem.

    Hello chaps,

Yes - well the memory is DDR2 as I believe DDR will not fit into a DDR2 slot!

    And yes it is 533.

What I have just done is to take the memory module out.

As the computer was "freezing" at least once every 24 hours - if it stays up for longer than a day then I will know that the memory is causing the problem!

I took the module out 10 minutes ago!

Will report back in a couple of days!

    :)

    Joel.

This machine has now stayed up for over 4 days with multiple hibernations, standby's and general usage.

I think I am going to trade my 1GB memory stick for a 512MB memory stick and give that a try.

Symmetry is always a good idea.

    Will report back.

    :)

    Joel.
