Well after about a week of reading the great threads in here about the HDD/BIOS problems I still can not install XP or W7.
First I wanted to reinstall my XP and could not get pasted the 34 min stag.
so i got a new Samsung 160gig and a Seagate 80gig.. it just reboots I can see it detected the drive the quickly reboots over and over .. I updated the BIOS from 06 to HUNTERFOF.
now it will load windows on the 160gig but gets stuck at the 34min mark. On W7 OEM Disc it locks up when the 4 Dots start to make the Windows ICON.
I noticed there was a new BIOS release and see that its the same.
My next step is to take it to the service center near by.
I Have Also taken it apart (Found the Actual service manual) cleaned reseat the heatsinks with thermal paste swapped the DVDRW and still locks up at the same places. I've tried cloning the drive and will not boot.
I'm totally stuck with the Original HDD/OS. All my diagnostic software is on it and I Need the Parallel port. new Laptops are all USBs

    Can anyone help..
    TIA
    Rob

I also Used the Hiren's Boot CD and ran all tests and all passed, RAM 1GIG test was over night with no failures

I recommend that you try install with the 80gb drive, and use another installation XP disk for start. Or partition your 160gb into 2.

    cheers ...

Tried that .. no luck BUT .. lol after 3 tries .. it installed after user name and locked up... for the hell of it I used an HP A1120 XP and it installed fully on the 80gig.. lol
on the 160gig it still locked up at the 34min mark with all my XP Copies.
looks like i'll be stuck with XP on a 80gig.

Try with some other ram module? I read that you tested it, but try getting another stick and see, lower ram speed module?

    cheers ...

Just did .. Got hynix 2x 1gig(I believe this was the Original Brand), Kingston both 2x 512mb and 1gig and corsair 2x 1gigs all got stuck at the 34min mark.
so i'm guessing probably BIOS HUNTSF0F did fix the 160gig reboot but can not install.
Is there a way to turn off the System BIOS SHadowed and Video Video BIOS Shadowed ?
