    Hi

Yip, u r always going to find some unhappy customers... its normally unhappy people that r here...

wat u need to do is:
find wat are ur hardware requirements (e.g. is it for work/gaming/travelling/communicating/graphics design???)
    and wat is ur budget.

then have a look at the laptops. things u should look at in laptops(not in any particular order):
    1. battery life:
most laptops that have about 2.5hours of battery life is good.
    2. weight and dimensions:
this is important especially for people on the move
    3. the processors:
if u travel alot get a Pentium M processor...
here is where u can find out more between centrino and pentium M:
    http://www.atheros.com/pt/whitepapers/Centrino_vs_Pentium_whitepaper.pdf
    4. screen (try to get a TFT screen rather than a normal LCD... because TFT screens doesn't reflect that much and u will be able to see the screen at different angles without the screen going out of focus.)
    5. the ram
    6. the harddrive and optical drives:
the optical(cdrom/dvd drive is very important)
    7. warranty:
this is important because ur laptop mite travel quite abit and it thus have a high change of getting damaged.

all laptops now come with LAN and wifi cards, so u don't have to worry about that.

    hope this also helps
    cheers
    (btw r u from RSA?)
