The 915 chipset(The LW40 has this) suppots dual channel fine, though sacrificing future RAM upgrades for dual channel(result is barely noticable if at all) is does't really make sense. Although, doesn't the LW40 have 2x 256mb?

    my LW40 has 1 512mb DDR2 ram

i used cpu-id to check what kind of ram it is and from there it said it is PC4300 SODIMM. i looked around some online shops and it seems that they only sell PC4200 SODIMM's. thats why i'm not sure if i can get dual channel buying only one stick of 512. i might have to go out and buy 2 sticks of 512 to run dual channel.

thats why i asked the question to see if anyone with similar experiences can shed some light on this issue.

are the effect of dual channel really negligable? even for games?
    got any links?
i just got my lw40 and was planning to upgrade to 1gig soon. i would prefer to have 1.5gigs, but was planning go with 1gig for enabling "dual channel".

I think if you have the integrated gma900 it makes a difference (I didn't benchmark it, but when I had it, it seemed that way before vs after upgrading from 512 -> 2x512)

My 1gig stick just arrived from canadacomputers.com.

No dual channel, but the performance increase is no negligible, I'd rather have the extra 512MB of RAM.

    I have the LW40 w/x600 btw.
