:noisyfan: or am I just nuts?

I recently purchased an LS50a and found myself immediately disappointed with the level of noise the machine produced. Contrary to what I was lead to believe by written materials and my own experience with a few new laptops (the Toshiba M50), I found the fan to be surprisingly audible. Even running a simple writing application is causing a quite noticeable and continuous stir.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had such an experience with the model and if there is anyway to remedy the situation. With many of the Toshibas, managing the cooling system and processing speed can be done with their user-friendly "Power Saver". What can I do with my LS50?
(I wouldn’t mind losing a little performance as my primary concern is being able to type in a silent environment. The promise of a quiet piped cooling system was actually a major factor in my decision to purchase the notebook.)

I'd really appreciate any input as soon as possible as I soon won't be in the position of obtaining a new computer. Cheers! :)

Perhaps mine is defective - the fan noise doesn't change too much when playing DVDs - but after examining a floor model at futureshop, I strongly doubt it.

I too am a little dissapointed with the cooling system on my Ls50. Fan is pretty much always spinning if i am running an application. and the HDD area gets very warm! so my left hand sweats alot..
I installed centrino hardware control but the options to control the fans were not accesible..
