So I just got back from future shop to take a look at the p300 and I came back both impressed, but also wary for a couple reasons:

    A) The warranty is only ONE year long included with the price. The future shop warranty kind of sucks, you can buy 2 years, but it includes the one year provided by LG (both start from the day you buy the laptop), so essentially you're paying 2 years for one year of service. It is expensive too, 360 dollars or so!

    B) The nvidia graphics card. This really plays into the warranty issue as well. The 8600M is a definite part of the family of nvidia graphics cards that have been popping us as being defective. The problem is its kind of an insiduous problem dealing with a decreased resistance to heat, and I'm worried that odds are, this is the kind of problem that will pop up after 1 year. Especially in 13" laptop where heat is probably a huge problem.

    C) The case. Good god. I knew about the zebra stripes. Fine. I was okay with it. But I got to future shop and the laptop was PINK and zebra stripes. And it has glitter! What were they THINKING??!?

My girlfriend said: "You can't pay that much for a laptop that looks like you stole it from your 15 year-old sister!!"

Anyways, on the brightside, visa will double the LG warranty, which effectively renders the futureshop warranty obsolete. Nvidia: I can imagine that if lg p300s start dropping like flies, either LG or NVIDIA will do something. And as for the appearance, I have yet to see the red model, but are there skins or anything that you can buy so it won't glitter for chrissake?

don't count on nvidia doing anything....as this problem isn't exactly anything new.

but i don't think the problem is as prevalent as this forum seems to suggest......many who have problems come here to this forum to get help.....vent...swear.....and let us know their problems.....people who don't have problems rarely come to this forum.....as you can see reading any forum like NBR will be misleading.......

I just got my P300u and am very happy with it. I was concerned about the nvidia gpu but my set (purchased in Singapore) included a 3-year International warranty (direct from LG) so I figured that after 3 years, I can afford to get another laptop if this one breaks.

I agree that the strips are a bit too girlish for me. I got mine wrapped with our own corporate colors and logo (cost me quite a bit to get it customized) so that solved the problem plus it protects the lid from nicks and scratches.

if the rumors are true (see my post) and you have time to wait, you can get the new P310 with a black lid and nvidia 9600 graphics.

    Wow. That'd be amazing.

But we probably wouldn't see it in canada for at least 6 months... no?

I agree that the zebra lid is not the most beautiful design, but the only downside for me (and that's just a quibble) is the external DVD-RW.

I love the external DVD-RW. I don't use it often and when I need it I just stick it into the USB port and when I'm done that is it.

DVD-RW is small enough to carry around without any hassle.

I think the exclusion of a DVD Drive to make the notebook lighter and smaller to carry was a great idea.

not only that but if your internal DVD-RW dies out you'll have a bigger problem replacing that. I know because my old Presario's drive is busted :(
