I'm leaving for college in the fall and I'm currently torn between an LG (either the T1 or S1 Express Duals) and the Fujitsu E8210.

Does anyone have generalized information about LG or Fujitsu or about the actual models? I do live in the US and I understand getting an LG could be a pain, but I'm willing to make sacrifices in order to obtain the best notebook.:decision:

well i am using the T1 right now for school and research. and i love it, you cant beat the battry life on it, if i use it just to type out my papers and turn off wifi, i get about 5hrs and 45min - 6hrs depending on brightness (it goes from 1-8 and if u use half brightness which is fine its closer to the 6hr range) but yea, the only downside is the video card if you like to game and the harddrive is a little slow, besides waiting a little longer for programs and windows to load its great. ONLY 4.2lb!!! and sexy :p

If you're going to be carrying it around a lot, you may want to consider the weight/size of these laptops:

    Fujitsu E8210: 2.7kg (5.9lbs)
    LG S1: 2.8kg (6.1lbs)
    LG T1: 1.8kg (4.2lbs)

The E8210 & the S1 are comparable in a lot of respects, they both have 15.4" screens and are about the same price. The T1 on the other hand is 14.1" and about $600CDN cheaper, but as moku noted the T1 has an integrated video chip instead of a Radeon.

Two questions you should ask yourself then:
    1) Will you be using this laptop for gaming? (I mean recent 3D games like Halflife 2 or Guild Wars or whatever)
    2) How much will you be carrying it around? If you're going to be carrying it to/from class everyday, on the bus, etc then you may want to consider that 6lbs is pretty heavy :)

All three are nice machines; whichever has the better specs/price and meets your needs is the one to get ... compare specs here:

does anyone find that it bothers them that the screens on the lgs dont latch?

nop it doesnt bother me at all. it opens .5-.75cm when u hold it upside down but i doubt you will be holding your lappy upside down alot :p but the hinge on the screen is very good for my T1, and i would suspect that it be the same for all the Lgs; it stays in place where you move the screen. no funny jiggle at all!

The screen doesn't flop open even if I hold my S1 upside down, so I wouldn't worry :)
S1 has the best graphics card of the three laptops you are considering so if you want your laptop to be "future proof" I'd go for it. I need to admit that the Fujitsu has a better display then the S1, although the difference is not huge so unless you are very picky about screen quality it won't make a difference.

    thanks!
i was also wondering what the heck the "security panel" on the fujitsu does. i'm big into being secure...my last notebook (an old dell) got hacked into in my sister's apt building when she borrowed it and a lot of my stuff was ruined/stolen.

but thanks to all of your info im leaning towards either the T1 or the S1.

i talked to a guy from Milestone PC and they're opening their US online store in mid June and LG laptops will be available by mid July!!
