So, my problem is thus. I'm one of those pesky people who aspires towards being a novelist, and my laptop is inarguably the most valuable tool towards attaining that goal. So, last night! My trial of microsoft office ran out, and desperate to continue hitting something approaching a decent word count, I went to download openoffice to continue. Unfortunately, microsoft office 2007 isn't yet compatible with openoffice, so I used a converter site to change the documents to .doc. How this is relevant to my problem I have no idea - for all my typing, I'm sort of computer illiterate. (Running vista, btw)

Now, the next morning (I'd just closed the lid on the laptop rather than shutting it down. Chock it up to frustration at the lack of document-related-progress) and it won't turn on. At all. No fan, no screen - the light that says it's plugged in/getting power is on, and the power light will *turn* on... and then off. ... And then on and then off. Rinse, lather, repeat. The power button doesn't produce so much as a grim flicker of life. This laptop is fairly new - I bought it at the beginning of August, so the in-store warranty is out, although the LG warranty should still be applicable. I'd rather not send my laptop off unless I absolutely have to, though.

So, noble computer forum goers. Any thoughts?

Hmmm... sounds like a definite hardware issue. I would call LG, I think they have pretty decent tech support.
