I am really now considering LG for my next laptop....The specs are fantasitically great. It's E500 series...
    2.4 Core2duo
    3GB RAm
    250 GB Hard Disc
    ATI 2400 Graphic Card
All things sound great and the greatest thing is that it is in my budget..
But the problem is RELIABILITY OF LG BRAND...
LG is new in laptops and my father doesn't trust this brand and he is saying NO to this laptop..But I think its the best within my budget...

Now u people help me out in convincing my father...I have explained to him that I have seen reviews on net about LG and these are quite satisfactory but it didnt change my father's reviews......
    So.......guys help me out!!!!

LG actually makes great quality electronics... if I had a choice between any brands, I would put LG right up there with Lenovo and Sony. If you like, you can always look at NBR's collection of reviews on LG's laptops.

I have thoroughly gone through NBR LG laptop reviews and they have helped me out in choosing this notebook..
But I live in pakistan where there are no LG retailers and if any problem comes then it would cause great problem for me and I 'll lose much money on it..!!!
The specs of LG are overwhelming while the price for that specs is somewhat low..This is also creating suspicion in my father's mind!!!!2.4 core2duo,ATI dedicated graphic card and the price isnt that much high!!!!
    Isn't it????

If technical support is your concern and LG doesn't offer much to Pakistani consumers, then I suggest you look for another manufacturer who is doing business in your country properly. As for the price-performance ratio, higher quality manufacturers such as Lenovo and Sony tend to offer value in different ways besides cramming in powerful components.

The ATI 2400 would be more than enough for your purposes, including HD movies and photo editing (when CS4 takes advantage of GPU processing power).

Could you fill out the FAQ so that we have a detailed idea of what specs you're looking for?

The problem is that in Pakistan, there is not a wide variety of laptops available beacuse laptops are not common here..That's why limited number of laptops are available...
I filled out the form in the past and the recommendations I got were not available in my country....
    So..
I love Acer Aspire 16 inch screen as all the time,I surf internet and try all the new coming softwares but this laptop has intel x4500 graphic card..So larger display becomes more comforting for me..But again LG wins me with its specs...Similarly DELL STUDIO is all a big competitor in this regard..
    So BOG,I am veryyyyy confused....

Well, I am not sure what laptop models are available to you in Pakistan. I can tell you that the Studio 15 w/ the ATI graphics card is a very good laptop with good specs and design features for the price, but it would not be consumer-smart to rule out other models.

If you are unsure of what looks good on paper, maybe going to a electronics store and testing out various laptops in person would give you a handle on what you're looking for.

That aside, the constantly update list of popular models on NBR's home page are also a good place to start; HP's dv4 and dv5, Lenovo's T400 and IdeaPad, and select Sony models are all good choices, provided they are available in Pakistan.

So finally the choice should be between Dell studio and LG...
I ll get u informed when I get the laptop..
    Thanks for your help!!!!!
    U helped me a lot...

One more thing that in my country,LG laptops and DELL STUDIO 15 are being sold at the same price...Some people say that the shopkeepers usually sell DELL STUDIO 15 in refurbished form without telling their customers that they are refurbished models...
So how to determine that the laptop shown by the shopkeeper is a refurbished one or new one....?????

If you can't tell them apart, then you need not worry about the disadvantages of a refurbished laptop; namely, cosmetic scratches or other signs of wear and tear. Just make sure the laptop you buy has a screen free of dead pixels and a proper cooling system with acceptable temps.

But the shopkeeper from which I am going to buy a laptop is giving 1-year warranty on the refurbished laptops...
That's a good deal...This warranty satisfies me somewhat....
    Isn't it...??

1 year warranty on a refurbished item is pretty good, the standard policy is 90 days, the 1 year is standard for brand new laptops as well.

If you have a Visa, use it to buy the laptop, Visa will double your warranty, so you will than have 2 years. But check if your Visa card has that option by talking to customer service

    oh..that's great...
    I ll try...
I dont get the reason why Dell Studio 1535 with ATI 3650 and LG E500 Series have the same price in my country irrespective of the fact that DELL STUDIO has better GPU than LG..But LG has better processor...
Just take a look at the following LG laptop:
    http://ae.lge.com/products/model/detail/e500.jhtml
and DELL STUDIO 15 is in the NBR reviews directory....

Sorry to be a downer, but I thought LG was great for laptops too. My Dad knows their other products are ****, but he went along with it cuz I thought the reviews were good too. I was very pleased with the laptop, until now. It died 4 months past the 1 year warranty, luckily I bought it on visa so they will fix/pay for it. I don't know if this was just bad luck, but I'm off the LG brand for a while now. I had to buy a new laptop because of this, because I can't wait more than a couple weeks without a PC.

A lot of laptops fail around the 1 year mark. Welcome to the world of laptops, where everything is less reliable due to cheaper manufacturing and inadequate cooling designs! :)

1 year is not a acceptable fail rate. Laptops should last much longer, at least the old ones did. If it weren't for me buying that laptop on visa and getting a extended 2 year warranty I would have a 1600$ paper weight because its faulty Nvidia GPU failed 4 months after LG's warranty.

MonkeyMhz: I wrote in your other thread, but I guess I'll summarize here.

A month and a bit after the warranty expired, my battery died.

And the notebook has been overheating during graphics intensive applications thanks to the faulty 8600m GT. Ok, this isn't LG's fault, but they have not put in the same effort for trying to keep customers happy like DELL who offered BIOS & Driver updates. Even Apple took it as their responsibility to try and fix the problem.

And support from the manufacturer has been horrendous. Pretty much a few months after the product is released, updates and drivers stop coming out. You have to search for other similar products which have the same internal components and get the updated driver there. Or go to their Korean website to get the latest. Sorry, but not everyone reads Korean. You're a global company, then update your stuff on all countries where you have a market/website. Their support website is really bad, annoying to use. I recently took their survey and filled in a TON of suggestions.

I want to buy a replacement battery, but the country's LG site's main component replacement website isn't even up. Replacements will have to come from 3rd party Australian vendors. I'm in Canada.

After this notebook dies, which I don't think will be too far in the distant future, I'm going to buy from a more reputable brand. I will never buy a product from LG again. They just don't care. This notebook feels like it's on its way out. It is starting to stutter under normal loads even under a fresh install (could be the HD, but SMART says it's ok).

Even another forum member soulpaladin who owned the same notebook as MonkeyMhz and I (the R500) reported in another thread that hers died.

OP: The specs for the product at such a good price was exactly what drew me in. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, I love this notebook to death. I just wish it's quality would hold up and the support would be better.

Yea i agree, the specs drew me in too. Maybe LG isn't that bad quality I just had bad experiance with the stupid faulty GPUs. But do look around, even if its hard to find stuff (like me, cuz in Canada most the Laptops have crap GPUs). Just keep trying, or even better order something if its possible...

Remember, LG is new on the market for laptops. Maybe wait till they build some rep. Or simply go for it. Its up to you,
