I just noticed this on Engadget. Doe anyone have information on this model and will it make it to the US?

LG doesn't sell laptops in the US, and might not ever. You may need to get it from across the border, in Canada

I was curious, what materials would the TX be made of? Specifically the casing? I really like this tiny machine but I won't buy any plastic notebooks.

Are any LGs plastic? Magnesium? Carbon FIbre?

    thanks.

All are plastic, I've seen and tried the LM50, LS50, LW60 and LW70, all were plastic but built reasonably well. The screen was very good too. InstantDVD is a very very very very useful feature :)

thanks for the info. That's a bit disappointing though. I guess I'll stick with Asus or Fujitsu then.

See many detailed pictures of LG Xote TX including the interior on this Chinese site (make sure to check also pages 2-4 of pics!)!!

    http://nb.zol.com.cn/25/259882.html

    It is really beautiful!!

(Though I already posted it in another thread, it fits here even better). :)

    Wow looks SWEET!

Docking station, backlit keyboard, 1.1kg, WXGA+ resolution on 12.1",

The HD is 1.8" so it'll be hard getting a faster HD, OD is external, good and bad thing :)

Not the whole thing, is it?

Though, it would justify the steep price tag :p

    @ hdionys, great post.
Though I don't understand a word, watching the pictures is very useful.

Is it already confirmed that the case is made of magnesium (alloy)?

I think this model now wins over my previous favourite Samsung Q30.
Both are very similar though Xnote TX is more advanced in quite a number of aspects:
    1. inbuilt extended wireless antenna (if I interpret the picture correctly),
    2. full size keyboard of LG well known good quality,
    3. big extended battery (with hot plug option??),
    4. devoted graphics (afaik, GeForce Go 7300 with 5,6 GB/Sek. is suitable even for F.E.A.R and Doom3 games),
just to mention those I noticed.

Yes, it is made of magnesium.

    One correction:
    1. inbuilt extended wireless antenna (if I interpret the picture correctly) => The antenna is for DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting). DMB is a digital transmission system for sending data, radio and TV to mobile devices such as mobile phones and laptop.

$2000? That's not completely outrageous (at least compared with $2735). Too bad the 2nd battery and optical drive would still be extra.. I really wish I could justify the cost of one of these. It's everything I ever wanted in a laptop.

    Hi,

I talked to the LG rep at a local products show.

MSRP for the TX, I was told, will be $2299 Canadian.

so thats only $2050ish USD... but, does that price include the extended battery and optical drives? if so, I might have to go for it, provided it's available before September.

I saw it listed on www.ncix.com last night as "in stock soon", so I think that means it hasn't been released yet, but will be soon. However, it was listed as having GMA900, not the nVidia 7300.

OK, here there are some points from the review which don't follow from the specifications and which are worthy of mentioning.

    - Weight: 1,15kg with standard battery, 1,5kg with the extended 6 cell battery, 2,13kg with the adapter and external dvd burner.
    - The chassis are from a light plastic (really??).
    - Accelerometer on the hard disk to protect the heads.
    - The standard size keyboard.
    - 1,8" 4200 rpm Toshiba hard disc.
    - external DVD DL drive is connected via USB (a difference from Samsung Q30).
    - Nvidia Geforce Go 7300 graphics (in the model under review),
    - wifi chip Intel Pro Wireless 2915ABG,
    - Surround-Sound
    - no Gigabit Ethernet (Agere fast ethernet chip is used),
    - no FW, DVI or PC/Express card ports
    - Section "Leistung" (performance) has some benchmarks results which are not surprising, the performace is in between a PM ULV 1,2GHz model and the
    core duo LG T1 model.
    - Graphic performance 3DMark 2001 SE 10.198 points (T1 with integrated Intel GMA 950 gets 6147 points).
    - Batterymark 4.01:
6:19h on both batteries, 2:25h on the standard battery (wifi out, power saving options out).
