    Hi everyone!

As I said in my first post, please excuse my bad English, please but I´m not used to speak or write in English...

Because it´s quite difficult to find a Lg T1 user community in Europe, I made research on google and I found you :D

I have a question about my T1-7DGBG. I´d like to make an upgrade to Core 2 Duo, because I need more performance to convert video files...

So, as the award bios tool is telling me, it is possible to upgrade to a T2600. The tool tells me that the max cpu clock is @ 2.16Ghz, so it would be possible to make an upgrade to a faster Core Duo, is that right?

My second question is, if somebody knows if Lg is planning to publish a Bios update that support the Merom platform? Or does the Bios already support the Merom platform?

My third question would be, does anybody have troubles with the fan? Because my fan is always turning up and down and that´s quite annoying...

Thanks for your help guys ;)

    Bye, Alain

About the 3rd question, do you mean that your fan speeds up and slows down in really quick bursts on a regular interval? Because my S1 does it as well and I have no idea why that happens.

    Hi Kensuke,

I´m exactly speaking about that. I never use the silent mode, because I hate the fan´s slowing down and up and down and up... That´s why I prefer the normal mode, so the fan does not have the problem below.

Apparently, that seems to be a common "problem" on the T1 (I know you have an S1) as I read in German and French Forums. A User told me that Lg knows about the problem and that they were working on the problem. But the Lg support here in Europe didn´t even answer me to my mail after 5 weeks. Great support, really

    Bye, Alain

    Hi Alain,

I'm struggling with the same problem. The fan accelerates from time to time in short pulses. However, there is a solution to this problem.

Probably you have already heard of this very nice tool Notebook Hardware Control ( www.pbus-167.com).

This tool can control lots of parameters of your CPU. It also provides an interface to the ACPI control system. It's only necesseray to write a script which supports the T1. I already did this. It's not perfect, because my skills in programming aren't very good. You can find this script in the forum www.p35-forum.de (german).

With this script you can also control the temperature when the fan switches on and off. This gives you the possibility to get a completely silent T1, depending on the temperature you set. I'm using 55°C on and 50°C off.

Hope this helps you. I'm enjoying my laptop now, before the fan was really annoying me...

    Regards, JayR

    Hi Alain,

Did you already try it? Did it work on your T1? Just play around with it and post your experience, i.e. what settings (on/off temperatures) you use.

    Hi,

no I meant that I knew about the program, but not about the script. I downloaded the script and apparently it does not work with the Nhc Version 2 Pre-release 4....

Did you patch the Pre-release 4 to 4*? They released a patch for core duo and core duo2's.

The script is supposed to work on all pre-released versions of NHC 2.0.

Have you copied the files to the ACPI folder in the NHC program directory? You also have to activate the ACPI control in NHC.

If you then click on "Show ACPI Control System details" and there the LG T1 fan control is enabled it should work.

By the way, the temperature threshold values have to be set in the .cs-file directly. I haven't added the possibility to change values in NHC ACPI control system due to lack of programming skills and time to aquire them. If someone is experienced in C# he is very welcomed to do it. :)

    Hi guys,

well I installed the pre-release 4* as you said, but I don´t think that the script works on my laptop because Nhc says: "Acpi isn´t configurated yet on this system..." But Acpi is intalled and activated...

This message means that it doesn't find the script. You have to copy it to the ACPI subfolder as I already said. You need both the LG.cs and the LG.xml file.

Can you check what NHC says about your laptop? You can find the information you need on the Info register in Hardware details. What's the model and the manufacturer in the system section?

    Hi JayR,

    thanks for replying. Well Nhc says:"Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2400 @ 1.83 Ghz, 2CPU cores, 666 Mhz FSB, 1,49GB RAM"

    Hope I helped you ;)

That's not the information I meant. Please check it again. You have to click on "Hardware details" to get the whole list. If you need further help let me know.

Anyway, you should have the same model as I have, so the information should be the same. Model: T1-7DGBG, Manufacturer: LG Electronics

This information is necessary for NHC to find the correct .cs file.

By the way, have you upgraded your system to 1,5 GB RAM?

    Hi Jay,

take a look @ the attachment.

And yes I did an upgrade to 1,5 Gb of ram. Actually, I bought 2 X 1024, but the T1 doesn´t have 2 free slots as the manual says, but only one. One is SO-Dimm 5300 and one is Micro Dimm. And you can´t get bigger ram as 512 Mb in Micro Dimm.

Yes, we have the same notebook. Did you open your notebook by yourself for installing the RAM modules? How much did you pay for one 1024 MB module? Can you feel a difference between 1024 MB and 1,5 GB? Is it worth upgrading the memory?

As for NHC, the script should also work on your notebook even without changing anything in the script. Have you copied it to the right directory?

Hi, the Nhc works fine, thanks.

I openend the Notebook by myself, it´s quite easy! I think I can feel a difference with the 1,5 of Ram, because the part that makes this Notebook slow, is the Hdd and with 1.5 of Ram the Hdd has less work.

I paid 99 € in Austria (via geizhals I think). I used 1024 of MDT (made in Germany) Cl4 Ram, it´s works really good, no problem with it at all!

Just in case you haven't found the threshold values in the lg.cs file. If you edit the file with Notepad (or whatever else) you can change the values when the fan goes on and off. Where you have to change them is explained in the file.I'm using the settings 58°C on and 50°C off. The fan hardly goes on now. It's really quite my T1 now.

What kind of memory have you bought. Can you just use standard modules?

How did you open your notebook? Once I removed the keyboard. This is an easy way to change memory. However, you can't change the harddisk this way.

    Hi,
Ive got one question concerning the noise of your laptops. I own a S1 and although the main fans are vary rare on, except during heavy load, another fan on the right of the laptop is constantly running. Its not very loud, but even so it is noticable when you are in a room where there are no other sources of noise. Does the T1 also have the right fan? and do you think that it is possible to control this fan using ACPI through NHC?

Normally the fan was constantly running on my T1 even under normal load. Since I'm using NHC in combination with the programmed ACPI script the fan only goes on occasionaly. The fan of the T1 is on the left hand side. There is only one fan. I don't know anything about the S1. However I'm pretty sure that you can control the S1 with NHC. You could just try it with the T1 script, but you have to change the XML-file. You need to replace "T1-7DGBG" by your model description. You can find it in the hardware details section of NHC (see above).

    Hi,

    I used "DDR2 200 Pin SO-DIMM 1.8V". Look @

    http://www.mdt.de/download/MDT_SO200.pdf

You have to remove the keyboard and a kind of cover which is fixed with some bolts... It´s really easy!

To remove the Hdd you have to open the entire notebook, which means you have to remove every bolt situated on the back of the T1. But I really don´t know if it makes sense to change the hdd, because you can´t get a hdd faster than 4200 rpm. I think Hitachi or Toshiba is offering a 1.8" inch Hdd with 8 Mb of cache, but the performance gain isn´t worth the price. I´m considering to change the hdd if there will be a 1.8 inch with 5400 rpm available.

    Bye

Of course I didn't want to change the harddisk right now. As you correctly remarked there aren't any 5400 rpm harddisks on the market and otherwise it makes no sense. However I was tinkering with the idea of buying one as soon as they will be available. Probably that will never be, but there might be harddisks with more capacity in a few months. 60 gigabyte's not very much.

    Hi,

I´ve got some news for those who wanted to change the Core Duo with a Core 2 Duo:

As my retailer said, it´s impossible because the Cpu in the T1 is soldered to gain some space in height...

And he told me, it would be impossible to change the 1.8 hdd with a 2.5 hdd because there isn´t enough space.

    @ JayR: According to http://www.engadget.com/2006/05/15/hitachi-rolls-out-travelstar-5k160-160gb-2-5-in-perpendicular-dr/

Hitachi announces a 160 Gigabyte 1.8 Hdd with 5400 :D :D :D I´m going to buy it as soon as it will come out, because the only that I really hate on my T1 is the slow Hdd.

    Greats,

Oh that is so great news! The only thing that have kept me from getting af T1 is the slow HDD...

Perhaps LG will make a new version of the T1 with C2D and a faster HDD??

The announcement of a 5400RPM 1.8" drive is great news indeed! I'm considering getting rid of the T1 and getting an R1 because i cannot STAND this sloww hard drive. I've had to remove all the disk intensive services just to make Vista usuable on the T1. i think i'll hold onto it for af ew months and then get the new HD.

    Hi Guys,

slow down :( I don´t know how this news was meant. They said that Hitachi plans to release a 160 Gb 1.8 inch Hdd by end of this year, but it isn´t sure that it will be a 5400 rpm... I hope it will, cause the only thing that really disturbes me is the slow hdd...

@ Tissie: Search on google, Lg released or will release a C2D version of the T1. It is called Lg-T1 7 XXXX or sth like that. The Hdd is still the same :(

    Hallo,
I have a LG S1 express dual notebook and I have a problem that my laptop gets overheated when it is running at full clock speed and shuts down within 15 minutes. I have only one fan on the left side of the Laptop as you have said. I opened my laptop and cleaned it up including the fans but still I have the same problem. Even when I change to cool option I see that the fan doesn't work at full speed. It looks to me that it's running at half the speed even when the CPU temperature is high.
Can you please send me your LG.cs and LG.xml file so that I can write the ACPI code for NHC to run my laptop fan at full speed?
I would be really gratefull for this.
I tried finding the LG.cs and LG.xml file an the http://www.p35-forum.de/ forum but no success.
