Core 2 duo? Kindly mention specs.

On LG's website, the available colours are black/white and black/black. I have never seen a black/black S1. Did I misunderstand?

On LGE's website, here. On the right side, under "color available". It says Piano Black or Black, with Piano Black the icon next to it is half black and half white. Whereas next to Black, it is only black. I assumed that it is black/black keyboard. Even if it is not, this still means that you have two color options?

Yea...i had noticed that one before...but musta forgotten.
Black on Black would be FingerPrint-Heaven :p

Hmm...its interesting how LG is differentiating between the Core Duo and the Core 2 Duo models among the S1 by using PRO in the name. LG Canada still lists a bunch of codes and numbers (S1-M002A9 :p )

Edit: Nevermind...just saw the PRO on the Canada site as well...i need look more closely at things :p

    I posted some info here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=1568192&postcount=2

    Will have more tomorrow.

Are you the one from Mexico or UK? We shipped 6 units of S1-M002A9 to USA customers today, one hold for a Mexico customer, one hold for a UK customer, another one hold for a Canadian customer, that means all 9 units I got are sold, but I can get one more tomorrow, after that one, I may need to wait for a short period to get another shipment.

Does anyone already got one? Can anyone post a screenshot of ATI Tool to see what is the X1600 memory type (DDR2 , DDR3) and the bus (64 , 128)?

You can download the latest version of ATI Tool from here.

    Thank you.

I'm in the U.S., and I think I got the last of the batch. MilestonePC.com was very understanding to me, even though I have been an annoying pest through the whole ordering process, bugging them with little questions. I thank them personally for their patience in answering each of my questions to the best of their abilities. Now I just can't wait for my new LG S1 to get to me.

Hi Danny, since as Asus seem to be doing everything in their power to prevent me from getting an Asus laptop, particularly my coveted V1J, I've started looking at the new C2D S1... could you tell me a little bit about it's build quality compared to the higher end Asus notebooks? seeing as you sell both.
I've checked the measurements against the suggested V1J measures, they both seem to be pretty close to each other...
    Thanks

Not as far as I can tell...
If I'm not mistaken, most of the members on these forums are US based, LG laptops are not being sold in the US, hence this is not the most popular of forums.

You should know that I'm often wrong though ;)

Hey, a quick question: What's the lid like in S1? From the pictures I get kind of an impression that the screen isn't very firmly pressed against the rest of the body when closed, but I guess this can't be right? Does it stay firmly closed?

LG recently announced the new, powerful S1's for the Nordic market. It's pretty **** expensive at 2450ish euros but on the other hand, it promises to be very powerful and also very, very stylish. My other options are HP nc8430 and Asus V1J. S1 costs more than either of those, but maybe I could invest a couple of hundreds in the aesthetics...

Can anyone comment on the brightness of the screen. Is there any difference with the WXGA found on other LG's?

I would like to answer you all but i don't have my notebook yet.
But i can tell you something about WXGA.
Usually WXGA is understood to refer the a 1366 x 768 resolution with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
    The most common resolutions are: 1280×720, 1280×768, 1280×800, 1360×768, and 1366×768.

    A WSXGA+ has a resolution of 1680×1050 pixels.

This means that you can actually watch more windows or applications at the same time in your screen. But some users prefer WXGA and others (like me) WSXGA but it depends on your preferences.

Okay. Got mine today. Too bad I don't have any demanding situations to put my new laptop through currently. One question... why does my wireless internet drop after a while? Something about IP operator? I can't get Windows to connect to the WLAN.

Everything looks good, except that my DVD drive doesn't seem to be working properly. I tried to install SimCity 4, and when I inserted the CD, it shook to an extreme degree. However, when I installed some other things, they went fine. Upon closer examination, the bay door doesn't seem to make contact with the main body. I might have to get warranty coverage on this. I wonder if MilestonePC will respond here. That would really help, as I'm not too sure on what course of action I should take.

What kind of expansion card does the S1-M002A9 have?

The LG website says ExpressCard OR PCMCIA PC Card ... which is it? Hopefully not PC Card like the M001A9 variant.

Well, looks like currently my X1600 is at 4 active pipelines and at 87.38mhz on both the memory and the core. I'll post what they become when I run 3d-intensive applications.

Ergh... it doesn't change even when I'm running Need for Speed: Most Wanted...

Oh, and also, it says 128-bit... I thought all X1600's were 256-bit.

No way, are you serious Willsclvi?
Movility Radeon ATI X1600 have 12 Fragment Pipelines, Core Clock: 470 MHz and Memory Clock: 470 MHz (940 DDR).
    I'm confused now....
Why don't you run 3dmark05? You should have around 4k points.

GDDR3 and GDDR4 shouldn't matter that much: X1600's don't have enough power to fully utilize what GDD4 has to offer. ATi Tray Tool tells me that my core is at 418, and my memory is at 464.

And my wireless problem is back. It seems that when I'm unplugged, my wireless just dies. Anyone got a fix for this? Any other S1 owners?

    Battery Miser maybe?
Ive heard about a few power saving software offerings which turn off LAN/WLAN when you're unplugged to save battery life.

    Not sure tho..

Okay... well... it's working now, for some reason... they just randomly decide to work... Tomorrow will be the first day where I'll bring it to class. If it fails there, then I'll do a complete reformat and leave out the LG software to see if that solves the problem.

Well, I went and ordered S1-M2STV, which apparently is something like the Nordic equivalent to this model. Specs are a little different though:

    T7400 (2,16)
    2GB (2x1024)
    X1600 (256MB dedicated, 512 with Hypermemory)
    15" WSXGA+ (1680x1050, Glare-type)
    100GB SATA drive ( 7200rpm)

+ rest of the standard stuff. Hopefully the DVD burner is Lightscribe, couldn't find that anywhere. So I should get a faster HDD and a glare type screen. I personally like the glare screens, but people haven't apparently had much previous experiences with this one in question?

No real ETA besides "2-5 business days" which in my experiences can mean anything, but... I really can't wait to get my hands on this notebook. :)

Those two were probably the only things left to update in this lappy :p :D
Although it could do with a bigger battery. And the STV isnt availble in North America :(

Yeah, the model codes vary by region: We don't have a M002A9.

The 9-cell battery is apparently available, but it is insanely expensive at 170ish euros. The next couple of months I'll be pretty stationary, and the battery life isn't that important. I think I will eventually buy that though since next year I'll most likely be hauling the puter from places to places quite a lot.

Reformat didn't solve much: I still can't connect to any wireless networks when I'm unplugged. I think I'll have to call warranty support on this...

Edit: Never mind on that... I managed to get it working. I went to Advanced Configurations for the wireless adapter and manually turned on all the battery saving options off. Did anybody else have this problem? Oh, and if anyone wants to know more in-depth, I can detail the information here.

All righty, then, here it goes.
I guess you don't need this if you can get wireless access when you're on battery and not plugged into a wall.

This first step might or might not affect the result: uninstall IP Operator. When I solved the problem, I had IP Operator uninstalled, but it could work for others even if it's installed.

What I did was (this was all done when unplugged from a main power source) I went to Wireless Network Connection Status under Network Connections.

From there I clicked on Properties, then beside Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Net I clicked on Configure.

Then under Proprety I scrolled down to Power Management, unchecked Use default value and then moved the slider to Highest.

Next I moved to the Power Management tab. Here, uncheck the Allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

    And that should be it.

    Thx for the reply Willsclvi
Alright ive got my S1, but i havent got a chance to try out the wireless yet for any problems.
The first thing i did after setting up windows (and some antivirus software) was replace the ATi Mobility Catalyst drivers with the latest version of Omega Drivers (Omega drivers seem to like me more from previous experience). I ran 3DMark05 after removing some extra processes (total was around 42) and the score returned was 4293 3DMarks. Not bad i guess. Im impressed and satisfied :D (Oh yea...this was with normal clock settings....ATi Tool shows them as 419 Core and 464 Memory)

Edit: No OCing yet. There isnt any apparent need to, but just for adventure's sake ill try it out later sometime :)

That's a really nice 3dmark05 score. But yeah if you OC it you prob get around 4600. A portuguesse review got it.

Question for you, AP27: I installed Omega drivers for its performance optimization, too, but I don't think Omegas underclock or undervolt the GPU even when it's idling.

Yea, Omega drivers dont have many power management features. I dont really plan on underclocking at this time. But ill be looking into ATi tool and OC/UCing manually if i really need to stretch my battery life.
