I had a random shut down while playing Swat 4 today.
Completely random. Im guessing its my Processor overheating, since ive had a few slowdowns ingame when it throttles down.
The problem is...i just opened up the keyboard and dust-cleaned it last week. Now if its overheating...im not sure what to do. Will i have to go the Artic-Silver route? or Undervolt? Or is there any other solution?

it could also be your gpu since you are overclocking it.

was this a complete shut down or a blue screen? you might be able to get some information from your eventviewer.

The GPU overclock was only for the 3dMark tests. I run it at 418/463 which are the stock LG settings

It just happened again. This is getting annoying :(

    Oh...and yea it was a complete shutdown...no bluescreen/
How do i get to the EventViewer?

if you're using xp, go to control panel, administrative tools, event viewer, system logs.

In my opinion you should just play another game.
I've also had many problems with swat4...
If I were you I would check if this happens also with others games or if the problem it's related only to swat. If it's the second, try changing some graphics settings... then play ;) !

Its happened during other playsessions as well. Even while extracting a large WinRAR file, my CPU temp hit 86 Degrees.

I finally undervolted my processor to 1.2000V (from 1.2375V). I could probably go lower...but for now the processor caps at 79 Degrees.

That is hot! And I'm pretty sure that is causing the shutdowns. If it's on warranty have it serviced, if not, try Arctic Silver and see if that helps.

Also my S1 does not handle high outside temperature well. If it's over 25 degrees Celcius in the room the CPU temp goes up by 10 degrees while idle. I started using a cooling pad when it gets hot and everything works well.

I think it might be the summer. I usually get around 25-30 degrees outside.

    Ill look into it...thanks

notebookhardwarecontrol or are there any alternatives?

is it possible to overclock with this software?

back to topic: turn the notebook off, and blow as hard as you can into the air intake and on the other side also in the outtake. there will be a little dust cloud. this happens on all s1 from time to time, depending on the dust content of the enviromental air because the fins around the heatpipe are to close to each other, so that the dust creates a wall for the incoming air. result -> massive heat and shutdowns.

i have three lg s1, two coreduo and one core2duo. all with this problem ;-)

!dont use your vacuum cleander to do this! it would speed up the fan massively, a current would be created by induction and you would damage your mainboard.!

It is possible to overclock your X1600 using ATi Tool. I havent tried OCing the CPU (its already too hot).
Thanks for the cleaning tip, but I've already done the dust cleaning (someone else suggested it as well :)). I even opened up the fan covers at the bottom and used blasts of compressed air to remove all the dust. Still doing the same thing :(

Mmmm thats sad to hear, I really don't think that the reason is the summer temperature, because here where I live, is really hot and it doesn't doesn't restart or anything. I play a lot (Quake 4, Medieval II total war, AoE III, etc...) and it never restarts.

Are you really sure that there are not dust?? :p

Im pretty sure its not a dust thing. I removed the keyboard for the fan cleaning and also blew through both the vents.
Another peculiar thing is that ive noticed is that it actually shuts off (90+ degrees) only while playing Swat 4. While playing Oblivion and other games, it hovers in the high 80s (its still too high)

Thanks for trying it out Calzon.
Im pretty sure the problem is in my system. One other thing, ive noticed that under xp, my processor idles at 54 degrees. Isnt this a bit too high? I saw another thread where someone had ~40 idle temperatures under xp and ~55 in Vista, but im getting 55 degrees under xp itself. :(

OK I installed NotebookHardwareControl and my temperature is 53 ºC It is just downloading stuff under XP. But I haven't restart nor shut down my notebook for like 2 weeks.

I was playing "medieval II total war" and it reach 75-80ºC, very hot indeed.
