Hi guys,im having a problem with the fan.
    -Silent mode works ok
    -Normal mode works ok
-Cool mode works like silent mode

I distinctly remember having a warm gust of air coming from the side, something that doesnt happen now. I looked into it cause it affected gaming alot and i found out that normal mode was spinning the fan faster than cool mode.

I had the speakers replaced at some point dunno if it matters, it was at a LG certified shop for repairing LG laptops.

So the problem is,how do i get the fan running full speed again?

    Thanks alot.

Have you tried flashing the BIOS, or does LG have some custom fan control software that may need updating?

lg has custom fan control software, i haven't done any changes in software whatsoever and the 'fast/cool' mode just stopped working. The only changes since the last time i remember it working was the replacement of speakers.
As i said i managed to get the fan to spin pretty fast using the normal mode by playing some games but noticed that there was no warm air blowing out the side as it used to do and only pulled air in.

    Thanks in advance

I have the same computer model, and the fans work perfect.
both in Vista and (now) on Win7.

I did have some warmth problems like you described when I had XP, but somewhere in the process of upgrading to Vista, adding RAM, visiting the LAB it got fixed... ;)

Hello again, i checked the bios and the modes correspond to the ones i change using the fn key, meaning that everywhere is sets to cool but it's not "cool".
I've been using the same software as back then when it was working ok so i had ruled out that it was software related until today when i had to shut down the laptop and go to class right after a gaming session, what happened was that the moment the computer was about to turn off (right after the windows is shutting down window closed) the fan spinned really fast but i didnt manage to put my hand on the side fast enough to see if air was flowing out.Im going to try again later today and post results tomorrow.

As a side note i also noticed a few more things
-Changing to cool mode while in-game drops my fps significantly
-Changing back to normal alleviates the problem (until it heats up and freezes the game for ~10sec)
    -Some temperatures using HW Monitor
The three ACPI maxes while gaming were 90,85,75, cpus: 90, and hd 48 celcius.

@mtk: I purchased the laptop with upgraded ram (2gb),it would look like they screwed up something when replacing the speaker :p

    Hi again,
I came back to bump the thread post some unsettling new data, summer is approaching and yesterday i tried playing some games that required alot of juice and got high temps of 98 celcius on cpus and 98 on the first one of the video card. Also i didnt manage to recreate the full speed spin that happened when shutting down windows.

Im going to try a different monitoring software and post tomorrow

    Hi

I`ve got the same laptop, but an older version (2006) with a 1.8 Ghz CPU and 1 GB RAM. My laptop has never been opened up nor has it had any major problems, except for the one you describe right here. I used to play FEAR all day long back in the day, and now, as soon as I start playing it only takes a couple of minutes until the damn thing goes off. :(

Now, I`ve came to same conclusion as you: The fan modes are all screwed up. The normal mode actually spins faster than the cool mode.

I couldn`t find a solution yet. Have you??
