    Hi,

i was just wondering is there big difference in heat generation between these two? (There is a big difference in price! :) ) Performance is not that important to me...

    Thanks in advance!

The Core 2 Duo generates more heat while it's faster.
But if you are going to pay that much for the S1, why not wait for the Santa Rosa refresh. It'll come with a stronger GPU.

Thanks, but i rather buy this now since i can get it for a good price and i need it soon.

But are you sure Core 2 Duo generates more heat? I read great comments about the lack of heat and noise from Core 2 Duo people but some with just the Core Duo seem to be not so happy.

I'd like to hear comments from people who have the S1 with Core Duo.

    Thanks.

    EDIT:

Ok sorry! I was a bit hasty posting this, i just red a review about a Core Duo version and it seems to be cool & quiet. I was just panicking a little after few comments i red since i have already ordered my machine :)

I don't have LG experience, but I would agree that the Core Duo's probably use a little less power and therefore generate a little less heat.

Undervolting can address the power/heat problem when the computer is under load. I have had the T2300 and the T7200 running at 1.05V at maximum speed and the T5600 running at 1.0V. However, the voltage at minimum speed is locked at 0.95V for all these CPUs.

    Thanks,

i think this will be nice and cool. I just have traumas from my last laptop, the dv6000z wich IMO had terrible fan noice and heat (i sold it after couple of months of use). This has been getting really good reviews and my hopes are up :p I was also plesantly surprised by the price (under 1200 euros).

As for the gaming value. The main bottleneck is almost always the GPU.For more info go the the 3DMark table the "Performance tips" section.

Yeah, im pretty confident this is sufficient to my needs. Good all-round laptop. The X1600 should be able to run some games ok, im not ecxpecting anything great from it, but certainly better than my last one, the gf go 7200.

Well, it's the "What you get is what you pay for thing" so many HP buyers are very happy with what they got with the money they paid.

Yeah, but the thing is, after buying the dv6000z, i was thinking like that aswell. But then, i bought a hp business line machine for my sister, it was about half of the price of the dv6000 and it was so much better. Thats when i decided to get rid of the Pavilion...

And this LG is ony a couple of hundreds of euros more expensive than the Pavilion - man i was stupid when i bought it the first time...

well my core 2 duo is doesnt generate much heat at all (sony sz-450nc) however my friends hp dv1000 with core duo gets very hot. and considering that mine is 13.3 inches and his is 14.1, mine has higher specs, therefore it should get hotter since there isnt much airflow space, but its the exact opposite

Depends on how well built the laptop is.
And the extra heat generation is when both machines are under stress.

Yeah, but it sounds weird that a machine that runs cool with Core 2 Duo wouldnt do the same with Core Duo. Lets just hope for the best :p

my dv9000t with a C2D runs pretty cool. on idle its 22C a mid-use jumps up to 28-32C and max is always 60C or under. 1200 euros is not bad for the S1 but we've had the C2D Vista S1 for 1300 6 months ago so it might be alot cheaper here in dubai now. its a good machine, you get a remote, fingerprint reader and real cool styling. plus the X1600 runs games well as long as u dont need super frames that the human eye cant see and max settings at max res

Yes, but my Pavilion was the dv6000 z, and i think there is quite a difference between the z and t when it comes to keeping cool.

And i really do like to HP business line notebooks. I was actually gonna buy the one with ati x1600 but i would have had to wait for about a month since it was out of stock everywhere...

Edit: btw. The pavilion of mine wich had a amd turion was like 55C all the time no matter what

You mean NC8430, yeah that one is great laptop too. However, I think the reason that it was out of stock is because they wanted to release the Santa Rosa version of it.
