Note that this notebook was bought in Canada, and all part numbers listed are from this site.
    http://ca.lge.com/en/products/category/list/r700expressdualseries.jhtml

I recently purchased a R700-X.AP02A9, which came with 2GB of RAM. While ready the EZ Start guide, I was a bit disappointed to read that the max memory that this notebook would support is 2GB (wanted to upgrade to 4GB in the near future).

Now the newer model has been released (R700-X.AP03A9, not listed on the LG Canada website yet, but it is showing up around the net), and it comes standard with 4GB. Out of curiosity, I checked the manual download from the LG Canada website on the 3A9, and it is identical to the 2A9 manual (including the note about 2GB max).

    So my question is:
Has anyone tried upgrading the R700-X.AP02A9 to 4GB, and were you successful?

    Thanks in advance.

i downloaded the spec's on your mobo, Mobile IntelĀ® GM 965 Express

It shows max of 4gb memory w/ Vista 64bit

as I'm sure you know, a 32bit system generally does not show the full 4gb of memory, even if it is installed, though I think i read that sp1 may have fixed that--> but vista 32bit can't USE over ~3.4gb of ram. But Vista 64bit can.

yeah, I knew about the whole 32bit/3.4gb limits. My concern was that the manual for the laptop mentioned a limit of only 2GB on the mbo. My understanding was that vista can use 4gb (which by definition is the limit for a 32bit OS), but would report only 3.2-3.4gb as available.

so i installed 2x 2GB sticks, BIOS reports 4096MB (good), and the welcome center reports 4.00GB (good), however a sidebar gadget i have installed, as well as task manager both report 3GB (see images attached).

I am sure this is a 32bit vista thing, but i am still happy at least 1 extra GB of ram. going to do some research on possible fixes.

It's listed now on lg-s site too.
I see no reason why 4Gb wouldn't work in the other 2 model too.
The only problem could be compatibility if usind different from different makers.
If upgrading try to get from the same manufacturer as it's in the notebook.
Or check what they put in the newest modell.
Some cheap memory module may be incompatibile.

The 2x 2GB Kingston modules I bought run just fine in the R700, I would never recommend buying memory from the same mfg as the notebook (ie, apple memory is 3x+ more expensive than name brand OEM memory).
