I bought this computer in Korea and reloaded it with Vista Home Premium in English.

I have scoured the pages here and have read up on smartcams not working on other LG models. I have tried what they suggested (like Fn+F10) but nothing seems to work. I tried using the smartcam DL'd from the Canadian site and it still won't pickup the smartcam and when I close the smartcam program it gives me some divide by zero error.

Sometimes after a reboot the smartcam works and sometime it doesn't. Most of the time the webcam will not work. It's kind of bothering me, even though I probably won't be a heavy user of the smartcam...ha ha... but it's just something I'd like to have and be confident that it will work when I want it to.

Please somebody tell me what to do...

You need the original drivers that came with the r405. The updates don't seem to work you can contact me and arrange to get a set if LG will not suppy

I kind of resolved this problem.
After a reboot, if I put the computer in sleep-mode then log in again, the camera works again. Kind of annoying, but doing this works all the time...so far.

hi, i just got mine yesterday and also facing the same problem. the fn+fio brings out the system information actually. so no help there. i tried uninstalling the application from programs and features in control panel then reinstall using the cd that came with my notebook but still no go.

i am now updating the bluesoleil bluetooth driver (i just stumbled across a discussion that suggested to do just that) and it's almost done (i hope it works). i will try putting my nb in sleep mode once the update is done. but my worry is, what if it doesn't work? i really don't want to think that i got a lemon here.

yesterday when i bought my unit, i tried connecting to internet using hardwire, but it wont get through, i was so sleepy i didn't mind it. though the web cam worked out well. so today i tried the wireless but it wont find any setup. i had to run system restore to finally get it, i encountered a problem by the way while i was running the system restore. anyway, i am now able to connect to wireless but the webcam is not working anymore (Not found WebCam Device. Check your PC Camera). And when i tried closing it, i get the error: Floating point Division by zero.

Did I get a lemon here? and not only that, i'm having a problem with the bluetooth aswell. It wont find my handy phone!

    any advise please..

The only problem I've had was the webcam not working. But putting the computer in-and-out of sleep seems to be the solution to the webcam problem.

i just reformatted my HDD. i find it way better now. I always believe pre-installed software messes up with everything else. so now i got all my problems solved. and i don't even need to put the notebook in sleep mode when the cam isn't working, because it's always working now.. whew.. heheh!

I bought an LGE50 (E500) notebook 4 months ago and 2 days ago I finally got around to trying out the camera (SmartCam) only to find that it didn't work. It has the original Vista OS that it came with and I've installed MS Office 2007. I tried pressing the Fn and F10 keys simultaneously and also putting it in sleep mode and logging in again but both without success. Yesterday I rang LG service and they told me to: shut down, remove battery, wait 1 minute, plug in power supply only (not battery), turn on, enter into the bios settings upon boot up, select "default" settings, continue boot up then shut down, install battery and boot up in the normal manner. Hey presto! I have SmartCam working!

Try reinstalling the webcam software with the CD that came with your laptop.

Do any of you have a USB hub (or any variant) connected to your LG laptop when you power on? If so then I think that is the problem.

I have an LG E300 and whenever I have my Logitech AudioHub (USB speaker with 3 USB ports) connected during startup, my webcam will not function. When I launch YouCam it says no webcam device detected.

I have emailed LG about this and they are not aware of this issue. They suggested I send the laptop in for diagnostic and repair. But I believe the problem is with starting the laptop with a USB hub connected.

If you disconnect all USB devices and plug them back in at the Windows login screen then you will be fine.
