the german post doesn't contain more information than what i have given. if the rumor turns out to be correct, the new P310 would be a big step ahead from the current P300 (design and power wise), that would put the P310 (at least power wise) on top of the of 13 inch segment.

indeed the power consumption (and heat) of the GPU would rise:

    P300-U ABRAG
    - 8600M GS (20 Watt)

    P310
    - 9600 GT (23 Watt)

maybe the spotter got it wrong. the 9600 GS, which consumes about 20 Watt, seems more likely.

wouldn't a p9500 make more sense seeing as how it has a lower tdp? Anyways if they can pack all that in 13 inches and still have decent battery life then I am sold.

That would be awesome, but it seems unbelievable. The P300 already has the fastest/hottest/most-power-hungry GPU in a 13" laptop.

There is already one shop offering the p310.

    Link, found it via geizhals.at

thanks for the link! The P310-S.CBRAG has the same GPU (9600GT) as the P310 spotted at IFA, but a slower and cooler CPU, which seems more likely. But the information is odd because the P9500 is usually running at 2,5 and not 2.2 GHz.

Maybe their to-be-announced 12" will have an 8600M GS. This will be possible by utilizing the same alien-wizard technology that allows LG to cram giant GPUs into 13" laptops.

Note that the ArcheMedias page doesn't mention the DVD+/-RW drive to be external or not. So that could explain the clock frequency being misprinted, too.

Would really love to see this laptop, though!

well in order to have any form of a 9600 video card they must have an external dvd drive.

So I contacted LG (canada) customer service today, to pester for information, but all i could get was that the new model is 'worth waiting for' and it's coming 'sometime in Q4 2008'.

Now the question is, do i buy a p300 or wait for this goodness?? blaghhh

It's the most basic question when it comes to computers, isn't it? You buy a laptop and after a month there's a new and better one at the same price.

Hurry up with the info, you cyber sleuths!

If I go to the trouble of ordering a P300 from Germany to be delivered to the US with a wacky Canadian keyboard, I do not want to find out that an even better video card will be available the next week!

The P310 has been removed from Arche-medias and Geizhals.

Maybe LG got angry at them. I've seen this happen before with new Sony models.

I don't think that those specifications are correct (i.e. Resolution, Cache).
Why would LG use DDR2 rather than DDR3?
    Isn't there an HDMI port?

They are just some questions that have arisen in my mind, since all competitors are including such features.

It looks like those aren't the final specs.

    We'll see soon.

The price seems to low for a P9500 for me. But the resolution is right I think. They won't come with 1440*900 resolutions for a gaming machine I expect.

The cache is not mentioned but it will be 6MB with P9500.

DDR3 RAM has no benefit for performance over DDR2 RAM. The LG P310 will have DDR3 VRAM though, and that's where it matters.

    It will have.

They say it is a WXGA display, so it should be 1366x768 (not 1.280x800)

I agree with you on the price.

Yes, 6MB is what they should mention instead of 4MB.

    I hope so.

WXGA is a pretty broad standard that can mean any of the following:
    1280×720[3]
    1280×768[4]
    1280×800[5][6]
    1360×768
    1366×768[7]
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WXGA

1366*768 is a 16:9 resolution and I do not think LG will use it.

Wow, did u notice the 1.64kg weight? If true it would be almost as light as the Sony Z.

Price looks good. Even if misquoted for the P9500, I imagine it would only increase another 200 or so Euros. For N America, it should be well under U$2000 (I hope!).

Also, thx to Philflow for mentioning the 12" MSI. It's not off topic at all, especially for those of us making a purchasing decision.

Yeah I noticed that. It's exactly the same as the LG-P300 so they are probably using the same housing. Different lid design though.

Sony Z is still a bit lighter though, considering it has a DVD drive build in and weighs 1.49kg.

    Good to know.

can't wait to read user reviews on this one, looks to be same as the P300 just beefed up even more ... probably months away from arriving in Canada :(

For Canadians who are interested in the P310, S510 and R510 I called LG's head office ... while they were polite and helpful as possible they could not tell me an exact date or even make a guess ... they told me to just keep checking their website ...

Dear mother of god. I thought that the 8600M GS was amazing in something so small and light, but a 9600M GT? That is sheer lunacy.

*waaaaants* :p Whats more amazing about the P300 and hopefully the P310 as well, is that even with the uber powerful gpu and all, it managed to get much better <s>fuel economy</s> battery life than my Asus W7s while staying significantly cooler as well. We'll see whether the P310 follows the same, but I'm optimistic.

This wouldn't also happen to have hybrid graphics would it? I saw a 14" BenQ S42 laptop with basically the same stuff with hybrid graphics and an estimated battery life of 4.5 hours. If they would release the **** thing already (Canada in particular) I am eager to find out the battery life on the p310.

nope, unfortunately the P310 has no switchable graphics like the S42 has, at least that's what it said at IFA. That would certainly make the P310 perfect, but it should still have pretty good battery life so...

S42 is quite a lot bigger and heavier too, due to 14 inch and internal optical.

Keep in mind though that the 2.8 has a TDP of 35 watt while the 2.53 is 25 watt. In other words the 2.53GHz will be cooler and need less fan activity.

In games a 2.8 will not perform any better than 2.53.

You are right, but I need the 2.80 for pcsx2 :) and I dont mind fan activity

I hope this model will have a hybrid gpu as well, since its centrino2 its possible technically, right? would be a great battery saver when you are traveling.

BenQ Joybook S42 has hybrid graphics with GeForce 9600M GT GPU.

Besides.. Who get's a 9600M GT to run off some lousy IGP ;) Haha, no, it would be nice, but if it's anything like the P300 the batterylife should be good enough with the discrete card already.
